Is DJ Lagway officially a bust?

If you remove his games against FCS, his career so far is: 11 TDs and 15 INTs (and a 125.6 passer rating) 68 rushes for 105 yards (1.54 ypc) Would you say he's a bust, or is this all Billly's fault?

Way to soon to write him off.

He's under-performing, for sure. Too early to call him a "bust" because he's only a sophomore. I'm not sure he's 100% healthy, either.

Kid may be not be completely healthy, disinterested or simply does not have what it takes to be a big time D1 QB. Certainly not living up to the hype nor the NIL payment. I would venture a guess he enters the portal as soon as Billy is fired.

It tells me that anointing true freshman as saviors is a mistake. Someone posted about this recently but to their own detriment these guys come in and expect to be starters either immediately or at worst their second season. Lagway was flatly given the job this offseason, there was no competition and thus no urgency from him. People talked about him in such a weird way after last year, yeah he has some great tools, but he wasnt overly impressive in terms of actual results. Contrast this with Julian Sayin at OSU and he was in a QB competition all offseason, whether or not you really think the other guy had a chance to win doesn’t matter it kept a sense of urgency on him. And of course having Jeremiah Smith and Tate helps, haha. This is why when people say Sperry will without a doubt be the QB next year I cringe. If Tommy isn’t back and if Glenn transfers we must bring in a portal guy to compete for the job. A depth chart of Sperry and O’Neal next year would be a nightmare.

Everyone thought Travis sucked until his Junior year.

But I think we can agree he is not worth $3M+.

He doesn't do well under pressure at all, and teams have dialed it up. It seemed he was going to be a mobile QB, but he's not that much, and he's injury-prone. He makes a great throw, then throws a bunch of junk others.

I certainly didn’t. Infact I saw his potential in his first ever garnet and gold game (Willie was the coach) before he ever took a real snap here. He showed all sorts of flashes, especially running, early his career

Is any college player? I don’t think so, but that’s me.

I bet Lagway transfers and ends up being pretty good. Lots of examples of this in very recent memory.

I thought he was pretty good in that T-Mobile commercial with Mahomes and Gronk. Best work he has done so far.

And throwing. Saw it sling it around a little in that game then watch message board geniuses tell us how he can't pass for a couple of years.

My bet is he portals out & possibly gets healthy physically & out of the current shat show he’s in mentally in Hogtown. He hits reset on his life & he still has time to turn it around. I only dislike him since he’s in orange & blue. Once he leaves I’ll pull for the kid. 😝

If I was Lagway I would hit the portal after the season and go straight to Tennessee. He might have the yips at UF but he has some legit potential. He'll waste it if he doesn't get in an offense to plays to his strengths.

I didn't think his stats were that great to warrant all the hype.

Sure big difference. People though he sucked, not that he was the next coming of tim Tebow...

I agree but this whole discussion is silly 1 he played well for a fresh end of last season - can not deny it 2 he missed 8 month of ball - how do you not discuss that. It takes 6-10 weeks or so go get your timing and accuracy back after a long lay off. he has been throwing for 4 weeks. He is likely a 2-4 weeks away from being a decent passer again ..

Never understood the hype....In there best wins last year he did very little except one game...He did nothing against us and has done nothing since

Please review the SEC shorts on YouTube by Renaissance Bank. It answers all questions.

His footwork for a quarterback is awful.

My point is that, to take a line from @CoreyClark, people are allowed to get better from one year to the next.
