Is Lane in Play?

According the lasted Andy and Ari Show, Lane was the Top Target 🎯 and was willing to take the job when FSU got Bamboozled in giving Norvell the new contract, so could he still be in play here after only 2 years??? Easier path the 12 Team Invitational, new FOF, NIL is top 15, talent rich recruiting base and most importantly FSU might be desperate enough to give him the keys to the entire program?

I doubt it. Don't see him leaving Ole Miss for anywhere currently.

He has a lot of options if he wants them. His price tag when we signed Norvell would have been a lot more palatable than it is now. I'd like Lane here, but I don't know if the economics are feasible with the buyout that's coming. I've seen numbers like $13.5M per year (just rumors, so who knows). I wonder how poor Peter would be in paying that to Paul. Does that kill money for other more important things within football? I would imagine so.

No, I don’t believe he is. Right now, we are not financially able to do this. Coaches know now that Fsu in this new ACC is not the program it once was. Yes, and I know the struggles and everything on the field, but any team in the ACC has been downgraded. It is a huge reason why we have to get out of here.

This is the part we simply can't know. But there are people that will pay more to get someone they believe in. I wouldn't completely assume that FSU isn't going to be swimming with the big fish if we end up looking.

We aren’t getting Lane. The financial reality is that we probably aren’t getting any high profile coach right now. I think that’s why we are slow playing things.

I'm all for getting out, but is FSU really that downgraded now? We are about to start getting a lot more money from the conference due to the settlement. We have been competitive in coaching salaries for a while now. Our facilities are fantastic. Our NIL could be higher but it's not bad. And you don't have to play at Athens, or at UF, or at LSU, at Tuscaloosa etc. Lane may be smart to stay put. But as a hypothetical if he wants to win a National Title.......where can he get the type of players he needs without having to bash his head in every Saturday against the most loaded programs in the Country? FSU is a great answer to that question. All that said I don't see it happening at all. He's apparently reunited with Layla and she's a Gator legacy.

If we were getting Lane why would we need to fast play things? I believe it would be naïve to think FSU isn't testing the waters even though Norvell is still the coach.

Let me get this straight.......Lane leaves Ole Miss a program that he has spent years building ...finally has them in the hunt...just to leave it to go to a dumpster fire like us.....not to mention rejects LSU and UF!?!? wow. why are we even entertaining this nonsense!!!

Yes, FSU is downgraded by being in the ACC. Same for Miami and same for Clemson. That doesn’t mean that we can’t make a playoff, but I would be shocked if Florida State wins a title moving forward in the ACC. Same for Miami and Clemson, especially as the money starts piling on. Us getting unequal revenue sharing does not get us close to what the B1G and SEC is.

You'd only be shocked because we aren't good. FSU, Clemson, and Miami have all fielded teams with a chance at a Title recently. FSU has been able to keep up with the Joneses with everything except possibly NIL. But that doesn't come from the ACC TV contract. Obviously Norvell's contract is an issue but again, can't be blamed on the ACC. Point is, if you want to go to a place where you can get athletes on the level of the SEC without the murderer's row of the SEC then FSU and Clemson aren't bad choices right now. Especially if you're at a place like Ole Miss and might think it's topped out. I actually think if you ask the question where it would be easier to win a Title right now, FSU or UF, then answer is FSU. And if it's not, it's entirely slanted due to NIL.

I would be shocked because every year the 3 teams you mentioned will get lapped in revenue. The networks hardly focus on the ACC and has been doengraded in the last few years. As to Baby Kiff, he would go to UF or LSU ahead of FSU now for the reasons I mentioned. Also it is much easier to win a title at UF now than FSU. They will get better players; much more money( they actually had less TV money than FSU for much of the past 30 years). Now they blow us away. The SEC will get more teams in playoffs, and Sankey is working to guarantee that now with the committee. Your thinking is 10 years behind where we are today

Also I think Kiffin stays at Ole Miss

If Mike would have taken the Alabama job Kiffin was taking his place. It was a done deal. Now, who knows but I believe he either stays at Ole Miss or goes to LSU.
