Not going to get into how, or who-
It would appear that the NIL stuff where FSU/Alford is concerned is every bit as bad as people like Jeff Cameron were reporting. Not only that, there is apparently a belief that NIL “will go away in the next few years“ as part of holding the line.
What I learned this morning tells me that what is going on behind the scenes with the ”restructuring” is as much philosophical as it is money related. JC was if anything, underselling the frustration from the coaches about NIL.
There are some parallels with kids appearing to quit a little, and these money revelations -In more than one sport.
One can surmise that many college administrators are facing the same dilemma that FSU is between the rather loose rules versus predicting what’s coming down the pike- weighing staying competitive vs being in compliance in the event that caps and rules actually get enforced.
Some administrations are much more conservative.
In my estimation, in many major schools- on the academic side they don’t want to be penalized by an A/D doing stuff out of the rules- BUT the schools know that a robust football program benefits everything for the school. In these ever evolving times, it’s hard to know what to do when you have many stakeholders with varying interests.
It would appear that FSU has the opposite dynamic- where the A/D is the one putting on the brakes.
There are much more knowledgable people than me about the money - and the influence that the booster and donors actually have- but I have to imagine that most of the big money people have an attitude of winning- they are the type of people that if they are driving on I-75 and the flow of traffic is 85 mph- they are driving 9— and that would like to know the end game of their generosity is not going to be stifled at the proverbial 10 yard line- when no other program is playing things that way.
My point in all of this is that disincentivized players can make any coach look bad- and it’s at least something to consider.
It’s like the old saying “if something seems hard to explain, follow the money”

Our AD cut payments to players and it impacted the TEAM, he knows such so he covered CMN's butt and didnt put full blame on him. Alot of the smoke and mirrors is about the AD covering his own backside also IMO!!

So FSU is hamstrung by a horrible coach and an AD who wrongly believes that 20 million is all that is allowed to pay players.
And both are willing to burn it all to the ground to defend their beliefs.
At least we have women's soccer I guess.

If Alford's rules were enforceable they wouldn't be in Washington pushing legislation to level the playing field so to speak so they can enforce them. If when they finally do get the legislation in place to support enforcement it will be from the point it is passed. There won't be any retroactive penalties for breaking the current unenforceable rules. They tried to put the horse before the cart. They need an anti trust exemption but don't seem to be pushing it very hard.

It’s funny- if someone posts something that appears to ding the school - automatic troll. Maybe, just maybe, in the sea of crazy, some of us- who know people connected to the university, seek clarity to explain how things have gotten to the point that they did- I didn’t say anything that was not being reported by people on the FSU beat- I just said it has helped me realize how much blame there is to around- and that it’s a systemic issue as much as it is a personal issue.
I think what TBE has been doing is nothing short of incredible, but that is only one part of the story- and by the way- if you listen to the Nole Cast- or follow Bud and Graham, you can read between the lines as more corroboration of what I am saying

If that what JC has brought up. The college game internally is changing we are abiding by the rules so far with revenue sharing. Other schools may not be operating as we are thus making it different from program to program. Kiffen just got the 20.5 mill plus 25mill extra guarantee NIL. I been mentioning this all fall and got railed for bring this up. JC finally figuring things are changing. Hmm

One thing is for certain, it is much much easier to fire our AD than the football coach at this point in time. He has done some good things, but if he subtracted the tuition/living expenses from
their nil payments causing most of the players to quit after the third game, he should be fired for cause immediately.

This has been discussed by multiple folks we know are not trolls. Will be extremely difficult to turn this around without everyone being on the same page and that does not appear to be the case currently. Guess we’re about to find out who’s actually in charge….

When you have gobs of money from enormous TV contracts, oil tycoons, and generations of millionaire alums, this doesn't effect you as much. When you are in the ACC with a smaller pool of millionaire alums, this will greatly effect you.
I hope I used the correct effect here.
