From the radio show last night ...
"I think what we've learned over the last 12 months is what fits at North Carolina. I think the type of player, the type of family, the type of person. I think we really have a better understanding of who a Carolina football player is. I think it was a perfect example of this weekend. We brought a bunch of kids in. We had a good weekend. We had a tight end, we had a running back, we had a wide receiver, we had two kids that were committed to us, a linebacker, a corner, one of them was an Arkansas commit, another was a Penn State one. We went over to the Carolina Inn on Saturday after the game, everybody was kind of obviously depressed, but the family atmosphere that was around with everybody's family, it fit perfectly into what North Carolina represents, and I think that's given us a great education on what we need at the school to really to be able to be successful. We need smart, tough and dependable those kids are."
"They have to have a strong family background, a tight knit group. I mean, we had a linebacker who's committed to Penn State, and he brought his whole family with him. He's from Coatesville. He was going to go out to Colorado, and I could just tell them, sitting in my office, there's no way they're going to call -- that family's too close to not watch their son play linebacker in North Carolina. And hopefully we'll get him. But I think that's what we're looking for. Those are the kind of qualities we have to have. And a lot of it too is going to school, doing the things necessary that you have to do off the field.
"Everybody wants to see their heir kids play. They want to come to the game. And it's important. So that's where our footprint is. There's a lot of kids from California that want to come but then there's some other issues that come involved with that. I think, to me, it's really good to have a driving distance. The one kid we had in there from Virginia, heck, he was three and a half hours. The kid from Orangeburg, South Carolina, he's four hours. That's the players we need to get. And they're both quality kids, and it's amazing how they all know one another."

This guy makes me sick. Breaking news, college kids’ families want to see them play and it’s easier if they go to school within driving distance. Glad we are starting to wrap our heads around the day 1 stuff on day 300.
There is nothing Lombardi does that Suddes couldn’t do 2x better for half the price. I think I still believe in Bill but Lombardi and his muppet kid are just extremely expensive wastes of oxygen.

I don’t think you guys are getting it. This is their first recruiting class that is incoming, so they have had no choice in the matter to date
What this reflects, is being forced to build a team of back up and rejected players through the portal.
And those players have been disjointed, haphazard coming from all over the United States. No ties or family connections nearby when you bounce around from school to school you’re less likely to be family oriented.
So it’s a lesson learned from being between a rock and a hard place. It’s not as if Bill inherited an excellent recruiting class of strong local kids nearby nor is it like Bill inherited a bunch of returning starters with strong knit families close by

Bear Bryant always talked up a player's momma, even in that era where college coaches owned their players and could put them in the hospital with Texas summer workouts sans hydration. Accommodating that connection has to be a significant element of the pitch. Anyone who's ever followed college football recruiting even casually understands that.It doesn’t matter what you pay someone, nobody wants to get on a plane and fly 6 one way, and 6 hours back, not including layovers, delays, packing, renting a car, booking a hotel and losing three hours doing it.

Sorry did Bill have an opportunity to bring in his own recruiting class yet? Or were you referring to the abundance of returning starters and impact players left behind by Mack consisting of talented, local family oriented kids Yes, I’m referring to the strong incoming one, the one about to flip a recruit from Texas another from Florida State (bearing out Ohio state )and bring in a bunch of others heading into early signing day that will see it surge up in the rankings. So when you deal with that crap of grab bag, disjointed players, you quickly learn what you really needThis guy makes me sick. It might be hot air but I'm personally glad to see that Lombardi is at least claiming to have learned something on the job.

It’s such a weird statement. I mean is there something endemic to UNc where only kids from stable, two-parent house holds who can make the time to come to games will succeed here?
Why is that necessary for success here, but perhaps not other places?
“Sorry Billy, we think you’re the best QB in the country and will compete for the Heisman, but since your parents aren’t together and don’t come to the games, we aren’t sure you can succeed here.”
I mean that is truly one of the dumber things I’ve ever heard anyone say.

Turnovers, pre snap, penalties, clock mgmt, all the things that BB was known for pvsly are out the window. The marginal uptick in talent they may get won’t offset that.
