LSU Head Coach Position Concerning Coaches/Personnel

Hey folks, just dropping in because the stuff going on with Louisiana and the coaching search is bananas. Have been talking to a ton of folks around personnel/coaching world and the over-arching feeling around the LSU job is “concerning.” I’ve received more “what the hell is going on?” texts about the situation in BR more than anything that’s happened around LSU in the last week. I say all that not to necessarily PREDICT that Kiffin stays at Ole Miss, but there’s a growing amount of belief that Kiffin staying at Ole Miss is the better gig than leaving for Florida or LSU. I think LSU WAS the leader in the clubhouse to land him, but everyting that’s happened around Louisiana and the university has made things murky. But… you never know how things shake out LOL. Happy Coaching Carousel!

People that don't understand why this is "concerning" need to take a step back and look at the situation through the eyes of the top tier coaching candidates. The thought that the governor of the state (regardless of his politics) is potentially (likely?) to micromanage everything you do is a headache you don't want to deal with. If you're a top tier guy with your pick of job openings, why would you want that?

The primary concern is around the fact there are too many cooks in the kitchen. The governor is going to have a say in LSU’s president, AD and head coach. Plus, the potential resources (or lacking of) is also a concern. The Louisiana politics of it all is generally concerning, but not having competitive dollar dollar bills? It’s scaring some folks.

It can still be fixed, but Landry made us look incredibly incompetent. We just need to get a new President and AD in place to get back to some sense of normalcy.

Ironically, this might steer LSU towards a better fit as opposed to a perceived “home run” candidate! (Staying positive)

We just gotta wait and see brother. Coaching search season around here gets wild but definitely drives traffic to the Bengal Tiger and other LSU affiliated sites.

Image In 2 to 3 weeks when we have a new president and AD, no one is gonna be saying anything about this. Also, this is nothing new to Louisiana or LSU.

Can’t those concerns be alleviated though? Like as the coaching search goes on if the governor isn’t micromanaging and resources actually aren’t an issue?

It already is an issue. Jeff Landry just made sure to make it an issue. Whether he meddles publicly or not from here on, he already has. Can’t take it back.

You would be stunned how much will be made available if the right coach is hired.

I think it’ll depend on the timeline. There’s no rush to find the right people right now technically because everyone is available. But in mid/late November? When more jobs open and more people have been having legit conversations and candidates are being interviewed and accepting jobs? I think that’s when things can grow to a more serious concern. But of course, at the same time, if LSU does find the right person and they can sell what they have to the right buyer? Then they got their person and all is forgotten.

I’ve heard otherwise, but that would definitely be the hope.

I’m not sure what you were hoping to accomplish with this post. Maybe to get the most comments on a thread today?? It’s wrong on so many levels

God Jeff Landry is such a loser. He needs to stay as far away from LSU athletics as possible.

In the land of NIL and the transfer portal, it indeed has not always been that way.
