LSU is the classic example of SEC arrogance. Not a top job!

They haven’t been in the playoff in 6 years. Won a title and immediately went on probation for paying players. Saban gave that program a bunch of lipstick for that pig! Let for better job. Fans are terrible and they fired a coach with a better record than Orgeron. They are detached from reality of football in 2025. They are a mid to higher tier job. Not a top job. You won’t win a title unless you cheat and now that is almost off the table. LSU is going back to what it was from 1950-2002. Average.

The last three HC’s to coach there prior to Kelly won a natty so yeah, it’s a top job.

it's 100% a top 10-15 job and on par with florida and penn state

It's a top job, but you may be right in saying that it isn't the job it's been advertised to be. LSU didn't start winning big until Saban, and the narrative that LSU wins regardless of coaching is complicated by Kelly's failure. I think it also fails to recognize that Les Miles and Ed O. were actually pretty good coaches.

The only question you would have as a big time coach going into that job is whether the resources monetarily will be there to support them at a top 5 level now. Paying these huge buyouts have to come from somewhere. As a state there is no comparison in terms of amount of talent and the hold the university has on keeping them home.

They’re definitely a top 5ish job if your goal is to win. Definitely not a top job if your goal is stability.

The only one detached from reality is you, OP.

It’s the best job available right now. As long as Louisiana produces four and five star talent, that school will be a top job. No other school recruits automatically like them.

Umm I would disagree with your assessment it’s an absolute top job if for no other reason than they are the only state school in a football hotbed.

Elite recruits in Louisiana dream about playing at LSU. It's by far the easiest state to lock them down. That alone makes it a top 5 job in the country.

It is absolutely a top job! It has great facilities with an extremely fertile recruiting ground where most of those players dream of playing at LSU. Behind Alabama, LSU has the most NCs this century! And it’s the only school that has had 3 different HCs win a NC this century. I would certainly trade LSU’s last 25 years for OU’s, we’d be chasing 11 instead of still chasing 8!

It is easily a top 5 job! They have the resources and in-state talent to be dominant. Just think if Nick had stayed in Baton Rouge.

That's a TOP TOP tier job. Recruiting is as easy as it is in Texas. Just recruit your home state and you have an abundance of riches. Not many jobs better than LSU and it's damn sure better than Florida and Penn State.

Plus, they have elite talent at the positions where it matters most: the DL and OL. Being able to lock down half of your recruiting class every year with in-state guys, then allows you to recruit national guys AND put pressure on them to commit too!

Any program with boosters that are actively laundering money from children’s hospitals to support the team is 100% a top job.

Some weird politics you have to play there, but absolutely a top job.

Yep. Imagine if the state of Oklahoma regularly produced players like David Stone, Cooper Hackett, and Kaeden Penny. That's the advantage that LSU has.

The issue with the LSU job is that the administration is a total mess. Maybe that gets fixed, but it's a legit question for a new coach. A coach like Bob Stoops would never walk into that situation. Most coaches probably would.

They’re easily a top 5 job, maybe even higher. You can win there and win there early in your tenure.

Top job, but I'm not as confident to say it's obviously better than FL. I remember when FL was considered the #1 job by a lot of folk.

This. We saw what Urban did during his time there. I imagine had he stayed at Florida like Nick did at Alabama, they would've won their fair share of NCs as well.

My viewpoint is, it doesn’t really matter what school the likes of Urban or Saban were at. They were both simply incredibly coaches (and kind of prove my point) that would elevate any top 10-15ish job to a consistent national title contender. I think on paper LSU is the better job, but it’s negligible enough that a prospective coach would weigh other things. For example, Brian Kelly was a terrible culture fit at LSU. Don’t think it would have been as stark at UF. Golesh might prefer UF because of the familiarity, the boosters and stability at UF are probably more enticing as well. All that being said, I think we collectively have to reevaluate how we view the quality of these jobs, as the deepest pockets are probably the answer in 2025.
