Good. The idea of “borrowing” money to spend more on players to keep up with other teams spending more money (enabled for some by the very same borrowing) makes very little sense to me.

nah they'll find a way to do it without um and usc, this really may be headed towards um and usc going independent in football

Exactly. I’d also add, why should Michigan bend over backwards to help a bunch of schools that actively worked to sabotage us in 2023. Maybe next time don’t go whining to the commissioner if you might need our money in the future.

It was particularly ridiculous because those same programs apparently had no objections at all (at least ones they’d care to voice) to all of OSU’s actually real and consequential cheating over the past two decades. Instead you go with some horseshit Ryan Day’s PI manufactured (perhaps with a PR firm as well), based on a rogue “sign stealer” and some innovative interpretations of NCAA rules that 1) many sign-stealers at other programs didn’t necessarily know or care about and 2) that many sign-stealers at other programs (including OSU’s) probably made no real pretense of heeding.

As someone else said about this whole idea, the B1G has a spending problem, not a funding problem. All of college sports does, for that matter.

Difference is that no school took the initiative to turn in OSU for those two decades. Which was actually normal. What was abnormal, was what OSU did to us after only beating them once. I’m sure Michigan will turn in OSU next time (just kidding)

If that’s the case get with USC and ND and form your own conference, that’s a 3 headed monster and Tv companies will want those teams on there network. Screw the big ten after what happened in 2023. This is what happens when you try to please whiny Greg shiano of Rutgers and now fired Allan Hallar of MSU.

The only thing private equity does is put more money in the pockets of the suits in the Big Ten and other schools' admin. Michigan is on the right side of this.

Strong work out of the board. Very strong work. And exactly the right reasoning, too.

Nailed it. The initial money will help a lot of schools stay afloat athletically but PE and hedge funds scrap out profitable businesses and good non profits until there’s nothing left then let them default or sell the remnants off.

And guess what? PE is going to expect a return on its investment. How long before they are hinting that maybe Michigan and MSU shouldn’t play every year because Michigan vs USC gets higher ratings? Now admittedly, that would be a little funny. But at some point the entire soul of the conference will be gone.

As a consequence of derailing this effort, does anyone believe the conference will order the refs to pay us back on the fields of athletic competition?

This is splendid insight @TremendousBlue !! Thank you for keeping this board reminded of Day’s continued failures against his biggest rival! 2100+ days!!! Image

FINALLY, some sense from this administration! The PE deal was bad news for all schools, but definitely bad for Michigan and OSU.

We will once again not be in Pettiti’s Christmas card list… Maybe that clown shouldn’t have made an enemy of us from the start.
