Kid played in 5 games (several seasons back), which is one over the limit of four. End of story.
Florida State quarterback Tommy Castellanos is appealing to the NCAA for another year of eligibility.
Attorney Darren Heitner announced Friday that he is representing Castellanos in his legal fight after the NCAA denied the quarterback's waiver request for a fifth season.
Castellanos, who transferred to Florida State last December after one year at UCF and two at Boston College, believes college football's sanctioning body should grant him another season because he played in only five games with the Knights in 2022 and one of them was a conference title game.

He's not quite to that level but he's almost as annoying as Pavia.

Looks like his waiver was denied so he is going the Diego Pavia route of filing suit against the NCAA. Is this about to become a yearly thing for players who want to stay another year and keep drawing income from college?

These kids know the rules ahead of time
At some point courts have to let rules stand

Career 58.5% passer and a less than 2:1 TD to interception ratio (48 TDs, 28 INTs). Even if he wins the appeal, would he be a starter anywhere? Maybe if Freeze was still at the barn, he might give him a look, but I can't see him landing a P4 starting gig anywhere.

Sometimes these rulings (like the Pavia one) can be really narrow. For instance, you grant this kid his eligibility and further state other players who missed a redshirt requirement BY ONE GAME and that game happened to be a POST SEASON GAME, and you are still within your five year window/clock, you are granted that redshirt and the additional year. That probably wouldn't affect too many players.
Basically what happened in the Pavia case.

I think Tommy's fifth game was the conference championship, but this was before the rule was passed that conference championship and bowl/playoff games did not count toward the 4.

Unless that rule was passed after that season, at which point he’d probably win this pretty easily.Kid played in 5 games (several seasons back), which is one over the limit of four. End of story. I don't get how they figure it's limiting their ability to earn money (which is their argument). I've never sued a boss for not letting me work overtime, and I'd lose that case in court if I tried
