OT: How many Chicago area posters are fans of both the White Sox and Bears

My brooding fellow board member @TPirish thinks that this overlap of allegiance is practically nonexistent. Please respond if you support both teams or have friends that support both teams. Even though I'm a Cubs fan, I have plenty of friends who are fans of both the White Sox and Bears.

I like both. I find there are more Cubs fans who root for the Packers than White Sox fans who root for the Packers. I'm city allegiant in my pro sports fandom. A Cubs/Packers fan is my least favorite fan.

I’m confused, he thinks people don’t like the Bears and the White Sox? That’s the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Thats all the south side is.

I am both a White Sox and Bears fan. And for those wondering, no, I'm not okay.

This is similar to the NY/NJ argument. I was always under the assumption Yankee fans were Giants fans, and Mets fans were Jet's fans. Alas, there are quite a few Jets/Yankee fans. From what I was told by my grandfather, they were all Giants fans when growing up but going to the games became too expensive. In came the Jets at affordable prices and an entire generation of Jet fans was born. Him and all his friends were season ticket holders for 30+ years. Although they were and always remained Yankee fans for life.

I have Sox fan friends that are Bears fans as well. The point is (and you knew this, but you'd argue a black cat white) is that the Cubs/Bears have always been joined at the hip. The Bears played at Wrigley Field through 1970. Halas calling them the Bears was heavily influenced by the Cubs. Again, you know all of this.

All you've said is that there's a strong connection between the Cubs and Bears, something I've never denied but which hardly precludes White Sox fans from also being fans of the Bears. That's the great thing about the Bears: they're a Chicago uniter. BTW, I would never make that claim about cats. I had a black cat that was never white, but it definitely did poop brown.

Add me to the list of fans perpetually not doing so well as a Sox/Bears fan. I think there are a ton across the City of Chicago as many people cheer for the city. Now, I will fully admit that I have cheered for both teams since being a little kid. As a Sox fan who cannot stand the Cubs, I will say that - deep down - it does always feel a little 'sickening' when reflecting on the history of Chicago sports and realizing the close connection between the Bears/Cubs and the way Halas ran competition out of the city. Had I become a fan later in life, there is a chance that I would have spurned Bears fandom on that basis (though I'm not sure it would get better following the Southside Chicago Cardinals out to Arizona...) So, I get where @TPirish may be coming from. But, for me, it was the natural team to pick up as a kid and I can't switch now... I have a feeling many other Chicagoans are either in the same boat or simply prefer to cheer for the city regardless of historical ties!

@TPirish is a Steelers fan who was crazy about Ben Roethlisberger. He perpetually bashes Caleb Williams over his silly fingernail painting in college but has no problems with a QB embroiled in sexual assault charges.

Well Jack at rhis point you might as well go for the trifecta and get married. A wise man once told me marriage is a 3 ring circus. The engagement ring, the wedding ring and then the suffering.

What the fuck are you talking about? The south side /burbs is Bears central. Tinley Park barely counts anyway.

Another old, and I do mean old, joke is: Getting married is like a 2 a.m. phone call-- first you get a ring and then you wake up.

White Sox and bears. I would guess that 95% of Sox fans are Bears fans.

I would think 95% might even be low. If they are NFL fans, I would think that they would support the only Chicago team in the NFL. Now I assume that there are some fans my age who were fans of the old Chicago Cardinals football team and simply cannot bring themselves to root for an old hated rival, but I would think that are very few of them left.
