Pete Nakos on VT's interest in Shane Beamer...

"Two sitting Power Four head coaches to watch will be Vanderbilt’s Clark Lea and South Carolina’s Shane Beamer. Lea has built Vanderbilt into a winner in the SEC and the Commodores are 3-0 to start the season. Leaving his alma mater would be unlikely. Beamer is Frank Beamer’s son and has found success at South Carolina. Leaving a good spot in the SEC for a rebuild in the ACC could be a tough sell, but the chance to bring the Hokies back to the spotlight could be attractive. The odds feel unlikely, but Virginia Tech will definitely make a run at the native son." He only leaves if he also thinks he can't fix the offense lol

I don't think he'll seriously entertain it based on his own comments, but the VT admin have to make him say no to satisfy their fans.

Pretty much the case. I think Mullen will be the big fish they hunt soon.

There is no reason in the world that he can't fix the offense, but this may require some changes which will certainly be unpleasant for all involved. But, coaching is a business and head coaches have to make these tough calls.

Beamer isn't going anywhere, and anyone who wants to run him out or are suddenly out on his long-term prospects here after what happened last Saturday are being too harsh. That doesn't mean Shane is absolved from criticism either. There are some short and long-term warts that haven't been completely addressed which he needs to face, some of which doesn't need to wait until after the season...

I don't see Beamer leaving, and see this as the reporter not really working hard to make educated guesses as to whom they would target. It just went, Beamer=VT

Not sure why Shane would be at the top of their list, but OK if he is.

Clark Lea is going to get a better opportunity than VT. I feel like he fits well in the Big 10

Would like to see what he can do at Wisconsin. Fickell just isn’t a fit there.

Donati seems much less of a hayseed type AD than Tanner was so I think he’ll handle any agent play well.

He's chosen to go with all 3 of his guys that run a pro-style. It's on him.

I COULD see him leaving no matter what he says. Too many magnets up there. I know everything he has said about us being the dream job, BTW.

Naturally Beamer would be their top choice but I don’t see him leaving. Just his name alone would increase fund raising. But the nil at vt appears to be a lacking. Plus the ACC is going to hurt a lot of programs with their effort to keep Clemson and FSU.

This wouldn't even be considered a lateral move for Shane or Lea. Gonna be a tuff sell for vt to get a quality coach. Tech is a mid-tier program in the acc...the bottom feeder of P4 conferences.

People forget when his dad finally retired they were not winning, they basically ran his dad out of there.

Seen a lot of buzz about Mike Vick. Supposedly a lot of VT boosters encouraged him to go get some coaching experience, which he is currently doing.

Would be risky but could payoff in terms of recruiting hype.

Seems to me that he'd need more than a single season of coaching experience before becoming the Virginia Tech head coach.

I would worry about Lea’s success being tied to Jerry Kill, Pavia, and the OC.

Yup no dig at lea as he seems solid but the success is all Jerry kill behind the scenes

His teams were disasters until the arrival of Pavia. Can he replicate the success with a different QB?
