Just listened to our president during his talk with the 1980 “Miracle on Ice” USA hockey team in the Oval Office and he went on about a two minute talk about NIL in college athletics and he shared his distain for the current system and stated how unsustainable it is for universities and said that the federal government needs to step in some capacity to protect the universities which is 100000000% true. There needs to be a governing body like yesterday! It’s only going to get worse if guard rails aren’t put in place. Hopefully they get something in place soon!

Yes, instead of letting the athletes get lawyers and negotiate for themselves, we should protect the poor universities that are being taken advantage of by the system they created.

We had one, and everyone sued them over it very decision they made. How would a new governing body be any different?

Trump wants Nick saban to be the head of the whatever they going to call this committee. Just because he doesn’t know the ins and outs of NIL doesn’t mean he can’t get congress to form a committee that can fix it.

If the federal government can tell a 20 year old football player that he can only make “x” amount from his endorsement with Nike, what’s to say they can’t cap an electricians pay because they think it’s too much? 100% do not want to have senators and representatives that are getting rich off of kickbacks at our expense having the power to decide what Americans are allowed to make.Just listened to our president during his talk with the 1980 “Miracle on Ice” USA hockey team in the Oval Office and he went on about a two minute talk about NIL in college athletics and he shared his distain for the current system and stated how unsustainable it is for universities and said that the federal government needs to step in some capacity to protect the universities which is 100000000% true. The problem with college football is not regulation, it’s that there are no good faith actors in this equation. Not the TV networks, not the conferences, not the players, and not even the fans.
Networks want bigger matchups and bigger names so they can get more eyeballs to then extort the streaming services + advertisers for more cash.
Commissioners/Conferences want more revenue from the networks so they can get bigger bonuses to their $1M salaries.
Players want bigger NIL because the next level, or even the next season isn’t promised. Oh and women like money.
Fans (including boosters and us on this very board) want more NIL spending to get the best players and win on the recruiting trail.
It’s hard to regulate a people process without incredibly harsh penalties for said people who don’t follow that process and *no one* in this chain is incentivized to want that.

Somewhere down the road the BIG and SEC must put and end to this madness. Threaten to seperate from the NCAA form their own college athletics association with their own rules, regs and pay scale based on class. TV will follow these whales no doubt! Pay scale for freshmen on one level, elevate for soph, elevate for junior and elevate again for seniors.
Step ups for each year you progess in the system. You don't agree then go play for the smaller conferences and lesser TV $$$. But Sankey and Petitti can control this if they really want to with the help of their school presidents and ADs. It is called leverage and they have had a great teacher to follow: Jimmy Sexton. Just learn from his playbook.
