I’ve got a bad feeling Michigan is going to be left settling, and that likely means Jedd Fisch or a Tommy Rees type. Hopefully some other options pop up.
The timing around DeBoer feels suspect. If he beats Oklahoma, I think that effectively eliminates him from consideration, and in the meantime Michigan risks losing multiple key players to the transfer portal while this drags on.
Dillingham feels like he may simply be leveraging Michigan interest to secure a better deal at Arizona State. The most recent messaging from Barrie and others seems to indicate things are trending in that direction.
Minter? I’d love that hire, but it comes with its own set of concerns. You’re essentially signing up for the annual NFL flight risk every January. On top of that, he wouldn’t realistically be available until mid-to-late January unless something is announced before January 2nd—and even then, his primary focus would understandably be on the Chargers.
If the reported list of four candidates is accurate, that leaves us with Jedd. He’s probably better than Sherrone, but it still feels like settling rather than landing a true first-choice option.
