I’m starting to lose interest in Drink as a HC candidate at Auburn. Don’t get me wrong, I think we could do a lot worse and if he’s hired I won’t at all be upset, but I’m not sure he’s the coach we need right now. We need a hard nosed, blue collar, fundamental coach or a coaching vet (Kiffin or Franklin) imo. I think he’s a solid coach, but he just wreaks of Gus 2.0. We will also have to pay him a ton of $$$$.
The more I listen to Sumrall the more I like him. I think Sumrall just gets it and is a tailor made fit for Auburn. I love Key and think he’d be a grand slam hire, but not sure the timing will work and he may want to stay at his alma mater. I also think Rhett gets too much hell around here. He’s a good coach. My top guys are below:
1. Kiffin (Unlikely)
2. Brent Key (Probably unlikely?)
3. Franklin
4. Sumrall
5. Rhett Jet
6. Dilly Dilly
7. Fran Brown
8. Golesh

Drink is the best recruiter out of himself, Sumrall and Key by a good margin. He also is a very good developer as he’s had good success putting guys on both sides of the ball in the NFL.
Biggest thing with Drink is he’s never had the resources to land a high end QB. If he did we are probably talking about him much differently. What he has done with mid Mizzou QB’s has been impressive. I have a tier 1 and he’s in it. I would be fine with him or the others I have in that tier. (Franklin, Kiffin, Dillingham, and Key).

Crazy how quickly people forget Saturday nights come Weds or so of the next week (not talking about you Diddy).
I knew this would happen. Our boosters and new age Jaba fans would see Drink beat an awful Hew and would convince themselves he could be the next great thing here.
Drink looked like absolute dog shit last Saturday (as he always does in “big” games). His sideline behavior was cringy/embarrassing.
It would be the most Jaba thing of all time to finally convince ourselves we went “big game hunting” and make Drink a top 5 highest paid coach in the country.
I’ll say this he would perfectly personify the new age Jaba and new age soft AU program.

I think people saw the audition they needed with Drink in JHS and he slid down the board for fans after that. You’re exactly right on the mold that is needed and he doesn’t fit it.

It was heavy to Cody Schader and Luther Burden a couple years ago and now it’s heavy to Hardy. Drink isn’t trying to fit the round pegs into square holes like Gus and Freeze. Can’t argue with that. He’s found a way to win at a program that doesn’t have the best location, resources, or infrastructure. He’s done a good job at Mizzou.

And that's not directed at the ones humbled by Hugh's failures. I know their hearts were in the right place.I’m starting to lose interest in Drink as a HC candidate at Auburn. Eli is a good recruiter, but he’s getting a quantum leaps worth of help vs what you get at a Tulane or a GT.Can’t argue with that. He’s found a way to win at a program that doesn’t have the best location, resources, or infrastructure. He’s done a good job at Mizzou.
