SC vs Clemson in the OC search....

Want to know why SC struggles year in and year out and just never seems to get it "right"? The next few days and weeks will most likely give us one great example of why SC can't get out of its own way. Garrett Riley is out as OC at Clemson. So that just happened on December 3rd. Beamer has been in the market for an OC for about 4 weeks now. So let's watch and here are some important things to look for.. 1. Who hires the new OC first (remember SC had a 4 week head start). 2. Who gets the better hire. This is somewhat subjective but I think most fans will know which one is the better hire. 3. How much is each OC going to make? I am not excusing Beamer here but I think SC's "problems" go way above Beamer. SC never pays top money for a coach. Let's see what the Clemson OC contract looks like compared to the SC OC contract.

Good post, IMHO.

Funny that they're looking for an OC. When he was hired a few years ago, all I heard was wailing and gnashing of teeth about how they landed the best OC in the land and were gonna be unbeatable forever, etc., etc. And here we are with him being shown the door after a less than stellar (brief) tenure... and their "OMG!" hire last year of the greatest DC ever has gotten off to a rather inauspicious start. Kinda makes Dumbo look like an incompetent mechanic - he's not knowledgeable enough on the matter to correctly diagnose it so he keeps swapping parts in hopes of eventually getting it fixed. Like recruiting classes, I'll wait and see what the results are, not the hype.

This is, of course, the best course of action. This also shows that "name" hires can fail as badly as no name hires.

I see one article on Clemson Insider saying so but nothing anywhere else. Seems his name came up for the North Texas HC opening but that didn't go anywhere. Pretty sure this would be a big story if he was let go.

I read a a post where it's "known" they are moving in another direction, but not official.

That North Texas thing is what I read. Apparently, Dabo was hoping he would get a HC gig somewhere so he could just watch him leave. Now, I think he is going to fire him.

Point 3 is laughable. Beamer is the 20th highest paid coach in all of college and Shula was in that range for OC at $1.1 million. I could only find the top 10 on OCs and #10 was at $1.4 million.

Oh man, no way.. Mike Shula was at $1.1 million. Oh yeah we are just rolling out the money bags then.... haha. Meanwhile Garrett Riley made $1.75 million up the road at our in state rival in a less money making conference. Nah, money isn't an issue at all. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

So, I guess the lesson here is that just because you pay more doesn't mean you get more? aTm said they took those courses... including the graduate classes.

Money matters. To say it doesn't is laughable.

And to say that simply paying more means getting more is equally so.

According to this Clemson already has a replacement in mind, just not telling yet. As I said Beamer = unprepared The Clemson Insider https://www.theclemsoninsider.com/2025/12/03/wednesday-night-coaching-change-update/
I'm hanging my hat on the fact that Beamer wanted to deal with the Blackwell situation and get Duckworth in the fold before moving on the OC hire. I would expect an announcement soon if that is the case.

Bingo….it was the ole group (i call them the Napier/Chadwick group), who blasted Dowell while using Riley as the bashing metric

Garret Riley may not have been the answer at Clemson but he was a better OC than Dowell Logains. SC points per game in 2024 was 22.7 and ranked 104th. Clemson points per game in 2024 was 34.7 points per game. Look, y'all make it seem like Beamer has done a good job of hiring anyone at all in his tenure as an OC. He hasn't. Garrett Riley would have been an immensely better hire at SC than any OC Beamer has hired.

After our last 3 OC hires, I'm not going to point fingers at Clemson. Heck, I'd still take Riley over the three guys we got rid of.
