Scott Drew

Despite your feelings towards CMP, I think UK dodged a bullet with Scott Drew. They've done nothing since their COVID Championship. He got VJ Edgecomb to come there, but did nothing his one year there. This season? They are 11-7 and 1-5 in the Big 12. Wonder if he wishes, on some level, that he should have taken the UK job?

From the moment when his name was leaked as a possible candidate to replace Cal, I didn't want him. His time would have been short and everyone would have been miserable. Definitely dodged a bullet on that one.

I feel like he’s content after winning the title but he’s definitely lost his edge

I bet he did last year when he saw the excitement and this offseason when he heard about the resources we used. I'd guess if he has any self awareness, he's glad now that he didn't come, because life would not be good for him here in the moment.

He’s probably glad he didn’t take it lol we’d make his life miserable here with that record.

I agree. Still not convinced Pope is the long term solution for getting Kentucky back to the mountaintop, but much better than Drew.

Didn't want him either - such a boring lame coach.

Scott Drew was not the answer. The jury is out on Pope but it is not looking good.

As a person who myself lived in Texas for nearly 14 years before I moved back to Kentucky, I don’t blame him and his family for wanting to stay there.

At the time I was more in on Drew than Pope and several other options Glad I don’t have to make those decisions

Image i haven't lived in Kentucky full-time since I was in elementary school - just visited family, which most of my immediate family (mom/uncles/aunt) have all since moved to Tennessee, Indiana and Missouri. I would move back to Kentucky though, only if I was within earshot of Lexington - so I could be a season ticket holder in both sports and attend more than just a game or two a season.

It can make a big difference which part of which state we are talking about. But Texas in general was a pretty decent place for me to be for quite a few years. I also did not hate being a Spurs fan.

Agreed, even many of his wins are hard to watch. Wins like last night make me think this team is overcoming bad coaching to win. The offense looks like crap most of the time, unless they are running and that's more athleticism and innate abilities than coaching. Our half court offense is as bad as, or worse, than Cal's ever was and our defense is intermittently terrible. We gave up like 8 dunks to Gollum last night! How the hell did they not adjust?

Pope is a better coach than Drew IMO. Pope has some growing pains with roster management and needing someone to handle NIL but he can coach. His biggest issue has been major injuries to starter level players each year he has been here. Surely that won't continue lol.

13-6 or 11-7 not much of a difference expect we came back from being behind a lot in 3 out of our last 4 games . Our little run is gonna run out because half our team is hurt

Frankly none of the alternatives look like they would have been a better situation, and Pope has actually done good things Drew - who I wanted prior to Pope being a candidate - has been a total disaster. Hurley - can you imagine that guy surviving Lexington? BCG 2.0, would be miserable and off to his first chance at the NBA Donovan - would have said no for, what, the 4th time? After having to wait for the portal to be basically done to hear the no I like the choice we made and what we can be. I don’t love where we are recruiting wise, injury wise, but we bettered Cal’s results in the first year. We broke top 15 wins records. I named my dog after this coach because he was my favorite player also growing up. Hoping like crazy he figures it out and finds a groove despite EVERYTHING going wrong that possibly can injury wise

Would have been another great Barnhart hire for all the wrong reasons.

Drew was too experienced/complacent, and Pope was too inexperienced. Oats was the guy. Everyone knew it then, everyone knows it now. It is what it is. I’ll root for Pope until he gives me a reason not to.
