So all signs point to Walters being our next DC

But AP spoke to him yesterday and he said he’s had no contact with Tennessee. It could just be semantics (maybe his agent spoke to Tennessee on his behalf) or maybe it was a different Ryan Walters? I know that sounds dumb but I looked on LinkedIn and I see no less than 500 Ryan Walters. It’s not output of the realm of possible that one of them just played along with the joke is it?

There are no signs that point to that. Just people throwing out names that make sense.

Pete Nakos isn’t one to just throw out names.

I don’t know what comes of this, but his “rumors are rumors” comment didn’t exactly shut down speculation. It reminds me of when Tampa press was asking Monte if he’d be joining Lane in Knoxville and instead of saying “no,” he said something like “that’s just speculation” and then taking the job a few days later.

It blows my mind that you're willing to entertain the idea AP talked to a random Ryan Walters, look it up on linkedin, rather than reading the media interview with the real Ryan Walters where he said the same thing that AP said he said. All coaches lie. At one point Tony said he'd had no contact with the Giants. Look where he's at now.

I’m sorry this blows your mind and I’m not saying it definitely happened. Just asking if people think it’s possible.

Kind of makes sense on multiple fronts if its Walters - show a brief time period where due diligence is done, let Washington finish their game Saturday as you don't lose that many days, and announce him Sunday. Not saying this will happen, just saying makes sense.

So let me get this straight - you're pondering whether our 9 million dollar a year coach called just a random Ryan Walters, that he found on LinkedIn, about our 2 million + a year open position and said random Ryan Walters went along with it just for the lolz? Don't overthink this OP. Either Walters really hasn't heard from us, has and is lying, or is just going by semantics and his agent or somebody else has done the contact. Calling the wrong # isn't part of it

Well, considering I got his number from another football coach that coached with him, I’ll go with no… But certainly coaches lie and that’s not anything new… It’s why I never even brought it to the board until the guy said it at his press conference yesterday because even I was skeptical of it.

This is a solid attempt to get on message board geniuses. That’s the only way this makes sense.

I think he just wants the coach his guys in the bowl game with no distractions. Which is very understandable and shows the kind of character he has wanting to finish it out the right way with them first

Sure… But let’s say he and Heupel never did actually speak… And Tennessee hired somebody else… Some of you were going to think Heupel didn’t get his man because of some Internet chatter out there that a bunch of people have ran with… And maybe he is the guy… I’m just saying knowing Heupel and a secretive as he is… Anything is possible at this point

Add to that, Walters might be leery of any blow black from the Washington fanbase even if he were to stay. I remember how folks felt when Barnes considered UCLA.

His team has a game this week. Saying anything else just creates issues. Just like you are trying to do.

I feel like Nakos saying that sources are telling him Walters is a name to watch is a little more than just internet chatter, no?

Nakos told me yesterday “everyone is running with it like I said he was the guy when I said he was a name to watch” name to watch doesn’t mean done. I still think he is in play imo.

@Austin_Price is there 1 or 2 more names that you have picked up on could be in play?

Did you know that Walters and Inge were together at Colorado in 2005?

Do we think that Austin mistakenly talked to the wrong Ryan Walters? Umm, no. Next question.
