***Some quick thoughts on Bama making the CFB Playoff

For all those who ‘don’t care if we make it or not’ fans, how are we feeling right now? A little bit of a jolt? Hopefully, most will circle back and get on board with this team. Strange season for Bama. The ugly loss at FSU, not losing again until a 2-point loss vs. OU, followed by the 21-point loss to UGA last night. The team was inconsistent throughout the year, but found ways to win tough games, even if a few shouldn’t have been that close. Goal for Year 2: Make the College Football Playoff ✅ We all know the issues, the inconsistencies, the inability to run the ball, Ty Simpson losing his mid-season form, yada yada yada. Alabama has a very banged-up team, and it’s been that way all season, not just this weekend. Several players have continued to play throughout the year without showing up on the injury report. OU will win if Alabama plays like it did the last few weeks, but the Tide also had every chance to win the game against the Sooners last month. They know it’s one that slipped away from them. OU missed a few players, including its best defender who’ll return. I do like the match-up much better than going to College Station next Friday night. Doesn’t mean they will go on the road and win. Alabama hasn’t been a top 4-5 team lately, so it’s hard to say they can win the whole thing right now. But it’s a new season. I think the committee showed it believes in this team, at least more so than Notre Dame, or others, when it plays its best football. I’ve said every week- maybe Alabama will play its best this week. Still have yet to see it or have we, and it was really just the first half against UGA more than two months ago? They haven’t played that way for four quarters (or three) against any SEC team. 12 days to get the team prepared, fix the problems, make better play calls, get healthy and play your best football game of the year against a team that has beaten you the last two times. If Alabama can’t, then they were nothing more than a Top 9-12 team this fall. I’m still a believer in Ty Simpson. I believe in the defense- who turned out the best part of the team the last two years. None of us know if the offense will look any different if he is replaced during a game by Mack or Keelon. Ty will start in Norman, but this is now do-or-die. If it’s not working, for whatever reason, you have to make that call and see if someone else can move the ball consistently down the field. I am excited to see this team get back to the playoffs. It was a ‘must’ this year and it happened. Forget about last night. It clearly didn’t matter (minus a conference champ trophy, still would have been nice). 24 hours to celebrate getting IN (for Bama fans), for the Crimson Tide- they better get their ass to work. IT’S PLAYOFF TIME! Image

JMU and Tulane have no business being in. Both are 3 TD dogs on the road and a total sham for the "Best 12 in" Hope Sankey and the others force a correction and leave the "Cinderella" crap behind.

I will be the first to admit I was wrong. I was NEVER in the “don’t care if we make it” camp, but was firmly in the did not think they would vote in a 3 loss Bama team over a 2 loss ND…….let alone leave a 2 loss ND OUT! Happy and thankful to have been wrong……committee surprised me big time. Very happy to get another crack at Oklahoma. RTR

I don’t want to hijack this thread. But I hate this sentiment. Blowouts happen all the time in the CFP. Even with the “helmet” schools. Hell, an undefeated Oregon got vaporized by Ohio State. UGA whipped Michigan. In the same playoff, Bama blew out ND, and OSU blew out Clemson. And what’s the alternative? A Texas team that has look ordinary or bad for all but three weeks of the season. No thank you.

I agree with a lot of this, especially believing in the defense. Where I disagree is on the committee thinking this team is better than Notre Dame. Are we more deserving based on a full season? Absolutely. Are we better than ND today? I don’t think so. Additionally, I have no belief in Ty. He, along with no run game, is why this team is one of the least explosive teams in the country. 2 plays of 30+ yards in the last 4 games. Not a very good thrower on routes outside the numbers.
