Telling Interview from Locked on Vols this morning about Arkansas

The interview of John Nebors of Locked on Razorbacks. According to him, it became known amongst the players that after the Notre Dame game, the head coach was going to be fired during the BYE week no matter what. Thus, the players gave the effort they gave against Arkansas. Also, the AD is completely checked out and is going to be replaced. Interesting info, and I’m really glad Tennessee isn’t in that kind of turmoil anymore. Oh, and good job by @Eric_Cain

The players loved Pittman. I don't think their passion is going to suddenly change in two weeks.

Either way I think it’s bad for TN to face a basically new unscouted team in 2 weeks. We won’t know what to expect so I feel like that levels the playing field a little bit. Petrino is a very good coach who could give us problems.

I doubt their offense will change much considering their interim coach was the OC already calling plays.

Petrino was already running the offense there, so there’s not a lot to change. As for their defense, bad is bad is bad.

Sure hope our coaches and players don’t think like that. If we aren’t prepared and ready to give maximum effort we will be embarrassed at home.

We’ve been beat by bad teams before.

Yeah considering the head coach was a OL coach.

Based on his past, it may change depending on how bad Bobby wanted the HC job.

Man that team is in total disarray. This should scare you way less than playing them with the head coach who started the season

They aren't going to embarrass us at home

The players can sense incompetence. They’ll either come out uninspired again because they loved their coach, or they’ll come out rejuvenated because they think Petrino was more suitable. That won’t necessarily fix the defense because they’re just generally bad, but they might be better positioned if Travaris Robinson was a dead fish

Where did this idea that Petrino is a “very good” coach come from? Many people have been saying that the last couple days, and it’s simply not true. We need to stop engaging in groupthink. Since 2011, his record as a HC is 2013: 8-5 2014: 9-4 2015: 8-5 (w Heisman winning QB) 2016: 9-4 (w Heisman winning QB) 2017: 2-8 2020: 5-5 (FCS) 2021: 8-4 (FCS) 2022: 5-6 (FCS) thats like a Butch Jones/Kevin Sumlin career. Not that of a “very good” coach. The last time he was anything that remotely resembled a “very good” coach, I was a freshman in high school. I’m now 30.

Because that time he beat the crap out of a Derek Dooley team that was mailing it in. BVS.

In the era of NIL, the good players on that team may make a business decision.

If you dive into his two good seasons at Arkansas in 2010 and 2011, both 10-2 regular seasons, there was some fools gold there. Really only two impressive wins. Finished 3rd in the West both of those seasons. best wins in 2010: 11-2 LSU, 9-5 USCjr, 9-4 Miss St, 9-4 A&M best wins in 2011: 11-2 USCjr, 8-5 Auburn, 7-6 A&M, 7-6 Miss St

Agreed. If Petrino was a very good HC, he would’ve already been coaching somewhere else. He was relegated to being the OC for a hot seat head coach for a reason. Also, he was already running the offense. Now he has less time to devote to just the offense. He’s not a defensive coach and he immediately fired half of the defensive staff. No way they’re able to put together and execute a good game plan in 2 weeks.

Are you worried about the Petrino defense? Because the offense is not unscouted in any sense, and there is plenty of film now on all the players.

Two things here: 1.) It's hard for me to believe that Pittman was going to be fired regardless of the outcome of the Notre Dame game. It sounds like they already had their minds made up long before last Saturday. So why did they even let him start the season as the head coach? Makes no sense. 2.) Petrino being hired as OC has always had a stench to it. Nobody can convince me that it was all Pittman's idea to bring him back. There are obviously influential people in the Arkansas brass who want Petrino back as head coach. If that's what happens, then they will get what they deserve.
