After having a day to absorb the news, I think I’ve concluded that Tennessee was too small of a stage for Vitello. And this isn’t a knock on Tennessee. This is praise for Vitello. I don’t think we’ve ever seen anything like him: 1990s Joey Lawrence charm, Brad Pitt/ Tom Cruise looks, thoughtful, and funny. The guy was always destined for the biggest stage.
I was worried that Arkansas would offer him a crazy sum of money to replace Dave Van Horn in the event that MLB proved to much for Vitello. However, that won’t happen. This isn’t Saban going to the Dolphins. This is Jimmy Johnson going to the Cowboys. Vitello won’t fail in San Francisco. Look at what he did in Knoxville. He took the worst team in the SEC, and he won a national championship in 7 years. That’s with an absolute juggernaut rolling right up the street in Nashville with Vandy. As I type this out, I doubt that the Giants are big enough for Vitello (pun intended). Don’t be surprised if you don’t see him in New York leading the Yankees one day.

He was a 1 of 1 and frankly we were lucky and beyond blessed to get him for 8.5 years.
He changed the entire trajectory of our baseball program. He was the only one who could have gotten us a $109 million stadium.
He also came along at maybe the most crucial time in the athletic departments history with football and women's basketball being a shell of themselves with the transfer portal and NIL era here.
Tony will get a statue outside of LNS and he will forever be one of the greatest figures to have been on this campus.
The memories will shift to great ones as this train moves on.

Woah! I’m guessing this is the first shout out to Joey Lawrence on the GQ.

Nashville MLB ownership needs to offer Tony it all if this works out.

This is kind of the conclusion I have came to as well. He was too big for college baseball. It probably ended earlier than it needed to, but this really seems like it was going to happen at some point.

I agree. He became too big for college baseball.
But to play devils advocate, he's not mlb worthy from a managerial decision maker perspective. Will his elite team building characteristic be enough to succeed? I have my doubts because he simply can't out recruit his opponent now
