That is a fireable coaching decision

The absolute worst coaching decision I’ve ever seen. completely unforgivable. Just mind boggling.

The Kirk wiener riders will never see anything wrong with him. But it’s sad that over half of this forum could outcoach Kirk.

The entertaining part is KF thought that was "aggressive" football

I mean it’s just hard foundation how bad that was. Not even amateurish. Just incompetence. Purely incompetent.

Agreed I was wondering who was going to rundown the guy returning it out of the endzone

You have to wonder. It’s a serious and legit question. I mean no coach at any level would make that decision in those circumstances. Everything about it was utter incompetence.

I’m saying that a coach who makes that decision can’t be trusted to lead any program at any level. It was that egregious.

Calm down, we're still going to win. We gave them the ball at our 30 and it took them what, 10 plays to score. Then they get a freak blocked fg return. We will dominate the 2nd half.

Doesn’t matter.

There have been a lot of bad halves and full games of football under Kirk, this first half is up there with the worst of them. We looked so bad in 2 facets of the game and mediocre on defense. The first TD for PSU was atrocious defense and lack of tackling.

Wouldn't bet alot on it, not like the Iowa offense was on fire either

This shouldn’t be a game from the opening kick off. You don’t take the ball. You kick to them with a back up qb and you do it both halves. You don’t kick a 66 yard field goal before half. This is a 25 year guy that is an idiot with his game decision.

I think Kirk finally started listening to all the idiots on this board who think we should always go for it on 4th down. Try long FG’s, what could possibly go wrong? That’s what could go wrong. So now, are we going to stop giving them points and play Hawkeye Football in the second half?

Overreact much? It's easy to criticize the FG attempt decision AFTER THE FACT but Drew has shown to be good from at least 65 yards, as shown in what follows. LeVar Woods, Drew's position coach, obviously signed off on the attempt. And then Kirk signed off on it, too. Some context & facts, from this season: 17-21 is 81%.
From Aug 30 (GOOD from 65 PLUS):
From Sep 6:
From Sep 13: This FG, too, would have been good from 65 yards.

Stop it. He was 7-8 yards short on the 1st one. it’s inexcusable, Mary.

Sadly, I can think of a couple more in-game decisions Kirk’s made that were more egregious.

7-8 yds short? Sure about that?

You can point to many mistakes. Here's just 2 of them: (1) How about our WR catch the damn ball? On Iowa's opening drive, the ball went off Jacob Gill’s chest, went up in the air and was intercepted. (2) A huge mistake by the D then cost us 7 points. On Penn State's next drive, the Iowa D held Penn State on 4th & 1, but an offsides penalty gave them another shot and they cashed it in for a TD. Instead of a 0-0 ball game, Iowa trailed 7-0 with 8:45 remaining in the first quarter.

Stop, he let up at the end and clearly didn't go through with a full strength kick. Chrissakes. Do it again next time. The threat of a blocked kick returned for a TD should not a factor any more than normal. Sure, the kick is gonna be lower, but that ain't a TD return 99/100 times.

You can’t rationalize stupidity. It was insanely dumb and you know it. Glad to have you here, Mary.

We really do have some ignorant (being nice here) fans.
