That loss is on Lincoln

If your defense is not holding them you bleed the clock, PERIOD! You don’t give them the ball back. You are getting 3-4 yards a carry, you bleed the clock. Even if the defense tries to let you score so their offense can get the ball back for a winning drive you get the first and go to the ground. Peewee football coaches know this. Lincoln called a great balanced game, but this one simple fact cost us another game. No other way to say it other than it is just dumb coaching. Fix this blind spot Lincoln, you had this game and you let it slip. Fight On ✌️

Everyone watching the game other than our moronic coach knew that. It’s almost like he wanted to make sure they score so he looks good on offense instead of trying to win. Maybe he wants an NFL OC job and is auditioning? Maybe wants to be bought out. It might be the worst coaching blunder I’ve seen since Can’t Hackett.

Wrong, as a head coach he screwed it. If your defense isn’t stopping them you as a head coach you don’t put it on your defense, period. That is what head coaches do. If LR was an OC fine, but as a head coach he screwed this one up. i have coached many games we won by letting a team score so we got the last drive and they knew we could score on them.

As HC you see how bad your defense is and try to win the game by controlling the clock. As bad as D is, this was winnable, kept snapping with 16-21 seconds left on clock. Could have left them 20-30 seconds but wanted to score too badly.

We had it won. Jut bleed the clock and score with less than 10 seconds left.

Imagine having a coach that understands play clock. We would have much different record past few seasons.

Exactly Puck! I wouldn’t fault an OC doing it if the head coach told him, just score. but as a HC, plain and simple, he screwed it.

Our D line did nothing to pressure Altmire. All of these great stats on sacks and pressuring the QB look good when you play lower tier teams. LR cannot seem to win consistently on the road. I think he has only won twice in the last 3 years. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Illinois had 3 timeouts. Didn’t even need it for offense. If we run the ball a few times and how much time actually comes off the clock?

100%! If your defense is a liability, you play to score last. This is not a hard concept. 8 year olds playing Madden Football understands the concept. It has been a major blind spot for CLR! and I’m a Riley fan, but dang he just doesn’t see this part of the game!?!

It’s on everyone. Lincoln did a horrible job of dictating pace and the first half went exactly how Illinois would draw it up if they could. And he’s a bozo for scoring with 1:55 left and not running the ball Waymond stepped out of bounds and fumbled on the opening drive. Maiva threw a pick, which is fine, but sabotaged the next drive because he couldn’t get it out of his head. And Lincoln had to tell him to keep the ball on the read option to get it off his mind and keep the defense honest Braylon Conley is an absolutely horrible football player all around. Worst player on the field for either team J’onre Reed is robbing hov donors blind. I would cut him immediately if I could, I don’t care. If anyone on the d line thought they were a first round talent there’s about 50 plays to look at to see why you’re not a first rounder Lynn is absolutely horrible. His pass defense is so bad it makes the awful run defense look good. 3 and a half quarters of play that is embarrassing to be considered USC Trojan Linebackers from EG and Stephens anyone that blames coach Reed shouldn’t… he didn’t replace anyone. He was added to the staff, there was no subtraction in the secondary. It falls on Lynn and belk before him, even though the corners suck The team should apologize to makai for not being worthy and everyone making more than 6 figures should donate to the makai lemon foundation

You sound stupid af 🤡🤡. You score when you can and it’s on the defense to hold up and make a stop. Unfortunately they couldn’t do that.

Last year he tried that strategy and that failed. You cannot protect them forever. Without some opportunistic turnovers this year, the record could be worse. Simply put, the D needs to get better.

It was nothing more then a team lost D line no pressure, still looking for LBers to do something other than gentry and D- backs make to many mistakes to young maybe but if that's all you have you have do, O line underperformed.

We had it on the 17 yd line with 2:00 on the clock. We get another first down on the 7 yd line. Do the math, easy to burn 3 timeouts and score with best case for Illinois less than a minute And no timeouts. You win that game.

Doesn’t matter what happened before. He had a chance to win the game. YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME. We had first and 10 at the 16. We could have run six or 7 plays and eaten up all their timeouts and at least 75-90 seconds.

No the loss is not on Lincoln He gave the team a lead to protect with 155 sec to go. The blame is on recruiting not having enough defensive backs

You score when you can, yes, if you have some semblance of a defense. But not with this piece of crap D. This is a D as bad as any of the hall of fame bad defenses this guy has fielded. I honestly think it’s a culture thing, still. The defenses consistently wilt like a dead flower.

1. You always score if you’re behind (we were) 2. Most people forget that it took Illinois all of 1 minute to get into FG range (without using their TOs) 3. This loss is completely on the defense (specifically pass defense) for not getting off the field. 1 punt, 0 Ints (again), 2 (that’s right 2) pass breakups for the whole game. And, Illinois isn’t even a passing team. But that stat line reads 21/27 (78%) 331 yards 3 TDs 0 Ints. You’d have thought we were facing Tom Brady and Larry Fitzgerald.
