The future of FSU - Coaching nuggets (Update 11/23 @ 1:05pm) 👨🏽‍🍳🐔🍗=🥔

Wanted to start up this thread because the future of Mike Norvell and this coaching staff is front and center for everyone. When we hear news, nuggets or even some viable rumors we'll share them with you here. 11/23 @ 1:05pm - Statement from FSU: TALLAHASSEE – Florida State University today announced that Mike Norvell is being retained as head football coach. With support from FSU leadership, Norvell has pledged to institute fundamental changes in specific areas to improve performance to meet FSU’s championship standard. “FSU Board of Trustees Chairman Peter Collins, Vice President and Director of Athletics Michael Alford, and I are in complete agreement that changes are needed for our program to improve,” said Dr. Richard McCullough, FSU President. “Coach Norvell embraces our support in that process and agrees that success must be achieved. He continues to demonstrate an unwavering belief in this program’s future, and so do we. This decision reflects a unified commitment to competing in the rapidly evolving landscape of college football, while maintaining continuity within the program.” “This program has been built on belief, sacrifice, and putting the team first,” Norvell said. “That set of values has always guided my actions, and those of our players. The driving motivation behind this is to make certain that we are doing everything properly to obtain and retain elite players, add critical pieces, and sustain long-term success. I love Florida State, and I am fully committed to this program, and our shared goals.” “In addition to addressing the reality that on-field results have been far from acceptable to the FSU standard, we also realize our responsibilities as stewards of program revenues and how to best allocate those dollars to compete at an elite level – something we will not compromise,” said Collins. “Throughout the assessment, one goal will remain beyond all others – achieving sustained championship-level success. We will address performance deficiencies in the program. These deficiencies may include structural changes to the very large and complex program FSU football has become, and these areas are where we will focus and invest.” “Our responsibility is to do what gives Florida State the strongest competitive position – not just today, but for years to come,” said Alford. “Florida State has invested hundreds of millions of dollars in its football program over the past few years with high expectations. Chairman Collins, President McCullough and I are aligned in partnering with Coach and improving our ability to compete for championships. Our mission is unwavering in putting Florida State football at the forefront of college athletics.” --- 11/23 @ 12:40pm - Ross Dellenger drops the bomb on Twitter/X
NOTE: First, we've been told this isn't finalized just yet. Sounds like could be some restructuring in the works. And a statement should be forthcoming on this. By the way, guys like Dellenger get this stuff first because they work directly with the agents and spin the narrative the way the involved parties want them to. I totally disagree that with the statement "The university president, AD and board are aligned". I've heard the opposite from multiple sources. 11/23 @ 10am - Latest from On3's Pete Nakos https://www.on3.com/news/florida-state-latest-intel-on-mike-norvells-future-with-seminoles/ As this story indicates, a couple sources are getting the vibe that Norvell might be staying. 11/23 @ 9:15am - We've heard there have been meetings with Mike Norvell and FSU leadership both last night and this morning. So far, we have no indication that he's been terminated. The longer this goes on the better chance he retains his job, at least for another week. I was fairly confident that a change would be made after the pathetic effort at NC State but now I'm not so sure. And maybe there are viable reasons why they want to wait one more week before pulling the trigger. Stay tuned.. 11/22 @ 12:45pm - I know people want constant updates but it's oddly quiet so far today. Some of that probably has to do with the team's travel delays (see below). But even behind the scenes we aren't hearing any buzz that there is movement to get the financial mechanisms in place in order to move forward with a change. It's still possible we get something in the next couple hours, but if not, then the next window would be Sunday morning. If we don't hear anything by then it's looking like this could drag on for another week. 11/22 @ 10:45am - You can't make this stuff up. One of the team busses broke down on the way back to Tallahassee. 😂 11/22 @ 9am - If you aren't aware there is a lot of fog in Tallahassee. As a result the team had to fly into Jacksonville late last night. As of now, I don't think they are back in Tallahassee. Why this is relevant is that if FSU athletic director Michael Alford is going to make a move, he will probably want to meet with Norvell in person before making any statements. Note: We should hear something from FSU either today or tomorrow. My expectation is they will announce they are moving on from Norvell. That's not set in stone as they could still wait until after the Florida game. But after last night's pathetic performance I think we'll get some kind of statement from Michael Alford in the next 24-48 hours.

Alford has wanted him out for weeks, so if a statement is made, then that means Pres. and BOT have agreed to the replacement plan. Good.

The fog just feels symbolic at this point. Can’t see the runway, can’t see the future of the program. Team stranded in Jacksonville, AD waiting around in Tallahassee… perfect metaphor for where we are right now.

Time for this to end. Big Norvell fan initially, but it just hasn't worked.

I am hoping for an announcement and a Jeff Cameron special of an explicit show (I think we all need it!)

Yep. And Norvell sure does value these team trips to Jacksonville... 🤡

Fire him today. Let him coach UF if he wants to, but make the move. Don’t wait until tomorrow

Agreed. Still so confusing to me. I think I understand the optics regarding making sure everything was in place, but now you have more kids that have presumably committed to Novell? Or maybe they are just all getting paid and know the deal? The whole situation is wild.

Unfortunately, Alford is attached to Norvell at the hip. Bud leaked a text stating Alford’s intentions to keep Mike if we won last night! Hopefully they’re both gone today!

If they move on from Norvell now but let james franklin go to Virginia tech a few days ago it's just comical at this point.
