The Injury Gods Have Done Us Wrong

Big time game and we’re close. In many ways beat ourselves. Isaac Smith Albert Reese Thompson Are 3 injuries we couldn’t afford. Losing Reese nuked our ability to run the ball, losing Isaac allows them to run, and losing Thompson allowed those safeties to play closer. We’re close but it’s going to be hard to take the next step with this many absurd injuries

Everyone made fun of Kang for his preseason takes on Blake, you’re lucky this guy isn’t making all of you feel like idiots. Cause he was right then and he’s still right now

I’m no Shapen apologist, but if the defense gets a stop on that last drive that went 13 plays and milked the clock or Kyle Ferris does miss what - for him - was a makeable fg, we win as well. Shapen was not nearly good enough. But there were plenty of chances in other areas to win the game as well

If Shapen throws the accurate ball to Ayden we win as well

Shapen deserves some blame but we can’t beat good teams like that when most our best players get injured. Objectively this is common sense

If we make a routine FG we win.

Yes but if Reese doesn’t get hurt, we don’t lose our running game. Lots of ifs and buts. They say injuries and overtime wins equal out over time. Our time is coming

Lots of things cost us this game. We lost…now we move on. What this did show was the true growth that has been made

Not upgrading over Shapen cost us this game and will cost us multiple others.

It’s not a game if Shapen doesn’t gift them 14 points to begin with A pick six and a Shapen fumble they took to the house

Yep, that's the part that gets me with Shapen. All of the other places are just individual mistakes... Brenen Thompson not catching the deep ball cost us 6, Ferrie missing the FG cost us 3... but Shapen cost us 6 on the throw to Ayden, and then he gave Tennessee 14... you just can't have that.

I ain’t hating on him with that fumble. Jimothy Lewis got him killed. Not many would have taken that hit and held onto the ball. Shapen wasn’t good. But there were still plenty of opportunities to win this game. Tennessee made the plays, we didn’t. Tip you hate to them. But I guarantee they go home feeling it. They thought it would be easy. Physical football is back in Starkville for the first time in a decade.

I don’t want to hear anymore of the injuries happen bs. 4 MASSIVE contributors that we could not possibly afford to lose

Yup. They missed one as well though. Lots of turning points. Point is, we lost the ability to execute due to injuries.

Since TN kicker did too I don’t think we can claim that

I agree physical football is back and it feels like we’re on the upswing. I’m not tipping my hat to TN though after that gift of 14 points and whatever that was in OT that falls on one guy’s decision making or lack there of.

And how do you fix it? As has been said numerous times by numerous people over the last two years “trust Lebby with QBs.” If he thought KT was ready to play, he’d play him. He thinks Shapen gives us the best chance. I have to take his word for it given his track record with QBs. We had our chances today and didn’t execute when we needed to.

Tennessee was far from healthy as well. Good teams overcome.

If he throws an accurate one to Evans in OT we at least extend it to the 2nd OT

Don’t forget…they can say they gifted us 14 off turnovers as well.
