The sun did rise today!

Good morning, all! This week, most threads from the MSU "fans" on this board spoke to the team having no chance, saying that it was going to be a disaster, etc. Let's not forget that the team is battling injuries, playing in Bankok's time zone, playing the top offense in the country, had a long travel distance, etc... But, after all of that, from the threads I've scanned this morning, people seemed shocked that they lost the game. Y'all need to handle your liquor better, balance your emotions more and make mental connections that winning last night was a low probability. There was concern earlier this week about losing the head coach to another school in Southern California and now people want him to walk the plank... As far as your expectations of 18-22 year olds, I hope you hold yourselves and your children to those same standards. ;)

Does anybody remember Nick Saban's loss to Penn St. in his second year? Some of y'all would be calling for him to be fired . . . Nick Saban! 51-28, I think.

While the sun did rise, it literally is a gloomy, rainy morning in East Lansing.

That’s why I like to pay attention to the point spread, which I believe we covered. That gives an outsider perspective on our chances, weather you like to admit that or not.

Yeah I hosted a big family party yesterday so I just went to bed and skipped the game. Not having watched it but looking at the score, my reaction was ‘pleasant surprise’ that we kept it as close as we did. I saw this as a scheduling loss and made peace with it as soon as I heard it was an 11 o lock kick.

Maybe you should move to Cleveland. It's sunny here today!

I have no complaints other than staying up too late. The boys battled. MSU is just so devoid of talent. I still think we can get to 6 wins.

Thought Chiles and co showed some grit on offense, felt like we were totally outmatched on D. Considering the second half started about 1:30 AM local, they had some energy at least

I'm not down at all. Try to evaluate everything with eyes wide open. MSU's offense is more than serviceable but I saw what I saw. MSU just doesnt have the talent or horses to compete against any quality opponents on defense. So I can't blame Rossi because I ask, what does he have to work with ? Add in injuries. Not good. I see Raiola carving us up also in Nebraska .2 week break allows you to heal at least. Not going to overanalyze it or trash anyone. Its personnel. MSU isn't good on defense. Period

and the preseason over/under was 5.5 wins. anybody not wearing green goggles was expecting a 5 win season. every year I point out that preseason is talking season, and fans get deluded by hope and that creates unreasonable expectation. but this place is like groundhog day, rinse and repeat year after year, with no chance of ever learning.

I got to watch my daughter get married in the Grand Teton National Park on a picture perfect day so there was no spoiling my mood! Was actually more bummed by the Tigers collapse than this expected outcome.

Not down either. First and foremost, glad to see the way Chiles played poised and in control. Him playing like that gives us a chance to win most of our games in my opinion. There is no mistaking that we have a quarterback. Nothing that happened on defense surprised me. I cannot say whether we have primarily a talent or scheme/coaching issue on defense, but the result was pretty much what I expected. I took the Spartans with the points and they covered. I watched the Nebraska game. I bet them to win outright. I'm not as convinced as you are about DR carving us up in two weeks.

You have MSU ? OK. Would never bet against the GW but not hopeful. No faith in defense. Agree 100 witn offense

Nothing has changed from a macro level - find a way to 6 wins and a bowl. That’s a reasonable expectation in Year 2 of any staff at MSU. That’s how I’m judging this season. My eyes tell me we’re weak on D but I don’t care how it gets done, just get to 6 wins. My feelings are best expressed by Vince Vaughn’s monologue in Wedding Crashers… “I’d like to recharge my batteries, shut down the engines. Get myself back to neutral. I don’t want to talk about what happened last night cuz it’s only gonna make me mad. Let’s get through today. Let’s keep our eye on the prize. Let’s focus…and let’s close some ass.”

The announcers were talking about how USC is in year four and finally got some talent...it will take time for us too.

Agree. They played “better than expected” and hopefully have gained experience in the loss

Great players make coaches look good. See: Kenneth Walker.

Being at the game last night not one player on msu quit. In the past with msu even under dantonio when you get down 21 points in the second half you would see several players give up. If we give our coach 4 years without trying to run him out, we are going to see a top 15 team making the playoffs most years. Going to take time to build the trenches. 16 games with new coach. I expecteded a 48 to 21 loss before the game started last night. Even told my wife we might leave right after halftime show as it might be a blow out. The fact MSU was in it in 4th quarter is a good sign. We have good coaching. Just need some time and get some healthy players back.

As someone who attended Case Western Reserve University and gets back several times a year, this is truly ironic and rare!!!

USC finally got some talent, they have 45 4 stars ? They always have talent . Our rebuild is basically from scratch that was the not case at USC
