This is what it looks like when you whiff a QB Eval

OK, man, nobody's gonna like this. Arch is about to start his 10th game. He's in the middle of his third year on campus. He is completing 62.3% of his passes. Only 60% this year. He's at 7.7 ypa this year (much worse against P4 competition). He's not even a top 10 QB in his own conference. Yes, the OL sucks so far this year. Glaring holes. Yes, the running backs are pure JAGs. BUT. What we're seeing is what happens when you go all-in on a 5 star QB and he doesn't have it. What does he do well right now? Well, his interception numbers are pretty low. And that's not nothing when you have a good defense and a good punter. But he has yet to elevate the team even modestly. His best game against real competition was against OU, where he made 3 difficult throws. And our only TD was a coverage bust. He's got a higher floor than Garrett Gilbert -- Gilbert threw a ton of picks. I'm not sure he's got a ceiling like we all believed. David Ash, as a sophomore, was 8.5 ypa and completed 67.3% of his passes. Arch is sub-David Ash. What's going on with the offense this year is that the QB isn't very good and we have a team that requires a QB to elevate us. Hit the layups and a couple shot plays and we're an average offense. We don't, so we're tracking for historically bad. And the truth is that Manning doesn't have it. Which isn't what anyone wants to think about. The bad news is that Sarkisian won't make a change unless Arch gets hurt. And I don't know that Caldwell elevates the team anyway. Dia Bell might have a chance to be a day 1 starter though. Or we might have to hit the portal. Because unless something bordering on miraculous happens, we have a QB problem that nobody anticipated. Yes, I hope this is jinx post.

I think Sark is equally to blame in that he only put Arch in a position to succeed in the RRS game. Every other game he’s asking the offense to do something that it doesn’t have the personnel to achieve.

Arch is bad. Water is wet. Shame that the haters were right, but you gotta give it to them on this one.

Every team in the entire U.S. wanted this kid. The whole entire offense is bad including the O.C.

Same for Nico and Malachi Nelson, and a bunch of 5 stars every year. And they frequently don’t pan out. It happens.

Watching the Film Guy Network now from Kentucky game and he is pointing out Arch's footwork/base as a problem. Could that be from all the pressure as he is constantly moving his feet and not standing tall. He also says he loses the nose of the ball causing it to flutter.

The odds were that one of the future Mannings would be a dud. No family could sustain their hit rate.

Why do people post nonsense like this? You don't have to be an expert to see the obvious. Arch has been bad this year. He's been a positive in two games, a massive negative in two and bad to below average in the others. There's no way around that. Yes, the rest of the offense has been putrid which hasn't helped, but Arch has missed more easy throws this season than I can remember from a QB in my entirety of Texas fandom. If you are stack ranking QBs in the SEC he's near the bottom and I'm not sure many would dispute that (14 in QBR and 13 in EPA).

So you’re telling me AJ Milwee just pouring buckets of rogaine on his head at practice doesn’t help Arch with his mechanics? I’m shocked.

This is also his first year starting. Way too early

You have this reversed. Arch's ceiling is 1:1 generational talent. His floor is way lower than we all expected.

He’s not good enough. We need to portal shop for a true QB competition

Are we of the opinion that Arch is a finished product? Just curious.

Of course not. But we aren’t seeing much progress. And we aren’t a teacher’s college.

What would the national reputation of Arch be right now if he was playing for Heupel at Tennessee, Will Stein at Oregon, or Ryan Day at Ohio State? That's the question that worries me. I think he's thriving in those schemes.

No, but he's a 3rd year QB who has now started 9 (played almost 10 full games). He's playing at a level far, far below what you would expect at this point for QB in a top level program. Will he get better? Sure. But he needs to get a lot better, quickly.

Scheme isn't making Arch miss numerous easy throws almost every game. Hard to have a good offense when you have a QB who is this inconsistent with this many bad throws.

This is what I cannot reconcile: Manning was 26-for-31 for 325 yards and two touchdowns and also rushed for a score last year vs. MSU. What's different this year? The O-line. That's it. Obvious answer: he can't trust his line and now he's way in his own head.

Why is Arch missing throws? Is it bad fundamentals and form, is it not understanding the offense, is it not processing fast enough? All of those things fall back on coaching.

He will not get better until the offense line gets better. End of story.
