Tino Sunseri out as UCLA OC

This was predictable. Tino was brought in by Foster and had no other real ties to west coast. Plus he has a wife and baby living across the country. He won’t have trouble finding a job.

So UCLA lost their HC, OC and DC...with Sunseri its no big deal because he was struggling on offense anyway. Jerry is intriguing because he's a Chip Kelly discipline. Wow...Mazzone, that's an intriguing name with some UCLA history. Who calling the shots...certainly not MJ

Thanks to Matt for helping pick up the pieces on that. Was out on an errand. Asked a team spokesperson if we would be talking to Neuheisel tomorrow, but that has yet to be decided. At the very least, it would likely be Skipper addressing the media again.

Went into the archives this evening for Jerry Neuheisel’s past thoughts when asked about play-calling… All the way back in April 2022, then-WRs coach Jerry Neuheisel shared that Chip Kelly let assistants call plays during spring practice. “It’s an unbelievable experience, right? You get to learn what goes into it. Then, he talks to you about it after. So, for us as a coaching development, what more could you ask for?” Neuheisel was moved from WRs to TEs coach in March 2024 when DeShaun Foster finalized the coaching staff after his hire. It was to help move Neuheisel a step closer to one day call plays. “I don’t know what went into all of the decisions, but I do know that I love being with the tight ends. I love having more of an impact on the running game now and to be able to help those guys,” Neuheisel said in August 2024. “I’m just really happy to be a part of the staff. And, as you guys know, I’m a Bruin through and through, so to be here and still be a part of this is just a dream come true.”

In that same April 2022 talk with the media, then-UCLA WRs coach Jerry Neuheisel said his father, Rick, was naturally his “most important” coaching mentor. “When he comes home, I don’t get fairy tales or anything like that. We don’t do story time. I literally have the old Homer Smith board, and he breaks it out. He used to put a pencil on a hash and said, ‘All right, you got a minute and 30 to get 7 yards to go. What are you calling?’ And you have to do the whole thing, going down the field. So, some people got TV and movies, and I got 2-minute drills. So, I was kind of bred to do this.”

Wow, Homer Smith, that name brings back fond memories! The best OC in UCLA Bruins Football History!

I’m just flabbergasted as to how the Bruins Football team collapsed this year. I was so excited with the addition of 54 new players coming from the portal and the major overhaul of the assistant coaches. I was so sure that this would be a dream season, instead it’s a nightmare season.

A temporary move at best but what a great opportunity to show what he's capable of. I don't have any illusions on the outcome of the season, but he's going to do his darndest to win games

do not mistake activity for achievement seems applicable here....
