That was the worst clock management I’ve ever seen. Nobody with a pulse is driving the ship from the sideline.

I mean. You trust your quarterback, coach on the field, to not just throw it up for grab there.

Venables is responsible for the strategy. It’s been a recurring problem.

Unfortunately BV takes the hit because the time and past history show he’s not handled these moments very well.

Subbing the rb after the screen pass to Sategna fucked everything up. Then Mateer HAS to know to throw it away in that situation.

Showing your intention of kicking a field goal and then trying to throw a deep ball anyway is beyond retarded

Yeah, but he didn't throw that idiotic ball.

Agree. This is the worse I’ve witnessed. That’s not on the offensive coordinator because we’ve seen this before the head coach has no clue about game management. Even if the OC made that decision, Brent should’ve overruled and prevented that disaster. That will probably be the defining moment in the game if we lose.

Or trust your receiver to NOT change his route mid-route

BV called the TO and gave the green light for a hail mary when we haven't thrown deep all game. He didn't make the call or throw the pass - but yes it is on BV.

Burning two TO’s in 4 plays will do that to you

Then trust them to try to get more yards earlier so it’s not a Hail Mary followed by a 50 yard FG. We should have run more clock earlier and once it was under 1:20 ir so gone way faster. Instead we saved time with 2 minutes left (potentially for Texas) and then went slow AF when it was unlikely Texas would have any time to do anything with it.

John threw a duck. That's where the blame lies at the end of the day.

How about Burks changing his route?

They trusted Mateer to not do anything dumb there, but he did. Wondering if Burks was supposed to break out there at the end? Three more points sure would have been nice, but we’ll see if it ends up costing them.

Yes. Anything that happened after the snap was a dumb fuggin choice because the past 3 minutes were already fully in the red on the dumb-meter.

Short of Venables stumbling into an all-time offense, OU is never getting within a thousand miles of another championship. I will never understand why he was given another year after 2024.

How was that a BV issue? He isn’t the one calling plays. Don’t go blaming BV for an absolutely awful play call and then decision by Mateer. BV didn’t cost us. Mateers decision did. I hate when you guys find some stupid reason to blame BV. That was all on Arbuckle first and Mateer second. Even if BV screwed up the clock management he didn’t cost us Mateer did. Jesus
