What happens if DJ wins the Iron Bowl?

We’ll be 6-6 and go to a bowl game for the first time since 2019, assuming we want to. Thanks for asking. EDIT: we (barely) went to bowls in ‘21 and ‘23 but those don’t really count because I said so

If I had to guess…Despite being in a good spot with Sumrall, Auburn would promote Durkin.

The bad look would be hiring DJD only because he beat bama. It’s gunna be Sumrall anyway so it doesn’t matter.

He’s probably hired at UF or LSU because alpha Sumrall is intimidated by DC Durkin

I’d argue the only chance DJ has at being hired is the bama game. He’s obviously not the choice rn and the only thing he can realistically do to change that is win the iron bowl. 2-1 when two of your games have been against playoff caliber teams is a heck of a resume.

No disrespect to DJ bc I love that guy but I am so over the criteria for hiring a HC being bc he beat Bama one or two times.

Then he wins the Iron Bowl. It shouldn’t have any bearing on his prospects as the next HC. Just like if he loses the IB shouldn’t have any bearing on his prospects as the next HC.

It’s less about beating bama and more about winning the biggest game he has on the schedule as interim. Who just happens to be the rival you haven’t beaten in half a decade. IMO we’d be foolish not to hire him if he beats bama. If he can do that within a month of being interim he deserves a full shot at the gig.

You will absolutely decimate the chances of winning the iron bowl if it’s announced Saturday morning.

The coach will probably be leaked before the IB for this purpose. If he wins, he will probably get a HC job at like Troy or somewhere at that level. I’m pretty sure Black Zackerby said Cohen didn’t hire the interim that won a natty at MSU

He will definitely be a head coach at AU or another school if a miracle happens next Saturday night

We probably make another emotional hire. I really hope John Cohen doesn’t operate off of emotion.

If DJ wins the IB, Deuce and Cam will put out a statement saying, "if Coach Durkin isn't made the new head coach we intend to enter the transfer portal." Now that would be something, LOL.

It’s been repeatedly reported that Cohen wants to announce the new head coach the day after the IB. The only way that’s possible is if the deal is sealed and the contract signed before the ball ever kicks off next Saturday. And there’s 0% chance that Cohen is calling his chosen candidate and calling the whole thing off because Durkin beats bama. That would be an insane way to run an athletic department. Even if Durkin is the pick, the deal will be sealed before the IB.
