What if Angel Reese is a better pro than CC?

Trending
Reese: 14ppg, 12.6rpg, 3.8apg, 44.6% shooting, 18.9 PER Clark: 16.5ppg, 5.0rpg, 8.8apg, 36.7% shooting, 17.1 PER Plus, Reese has played in 21 games, while Clark has played in 13, and availability is a big part of being a valuable player - since you can't help your team win if you're not in the game. [Yeah, I know I'm gonna get blasted on here - just saw a headline that Clark got hurt again last night and (combined with her shooting issues) it made me wonder if there's beginning to be a question as to her ability to meet the potential she showed in college and her initial WNBA performances.] [[Disclaimer - I've never watched WNBA - just look at headlines and box scores.]]

Yes, you will get destroyed. You're cherry picking from a portion of the 2025 season, where Clark has been hurt and not playing all that well, and a season that hasn't even been completed yet. Reese is in year 2 and still won't have played one playoff game while Clark will make the playoffs for the second year in a row. Reese plays on a team that is 7 games below .500. Reese is a self-indulged, cancerous teammate who will likely get traded before she ever plays a playoff game. Here's 2024 comparison where Clark performed better than Reese and Clark made the playoffs. Clark makes her team better in ways that don't always show up on a stat sheet. Reese does not. Caitlin Clark's 2024 Stats (Rookie Season):

Points: 19.2 per game
Rebounds: 5.7 per game
Assists: 8.5 per game
Steals: 1.3 per game
Blocks: 0.7 per game
3-point percentage: 34.4% (3-point attempts were 75)
Field goal percentage: 34.4%
Angel Reese's 2024 Stats (Rookie Season):

Points: 13.6 per game
Rebounds: 13.1 per game
Assists: 1.9 per game
Steals: 1.3 per game
Blocks: 0.5 per game
Field goal percentage: 39.1%
I appreciate that. I don't think I'm cherry-picking though. Rather, I'm using the season-to-date stats of both players for some key measurables. I get that Clark was much better in their first season, but looking at their career progression, and how they're both trending this season, it seems like Reese is improving in some areas, while Clark is having shooting problems, and is starting to show some indication that she could have injury concerns that could impact her career as a pro. Also, not commenting on who they are as a person, or how well they're liked - just performance. And I get that there's more to it than just the numbers, but at some level the numbers are illustrating what you're doing during your time on the court, which is a big part of a team game.

But that's got to be part of the equation, doesn't it? The ability to get/stay healthy. Or at least be better at playing hurt. I get that right now at least, the WNBA is officiated like the 80s NBA, where pretty much all the contact is allowed. Those players had to figure out how to stay healthy (or effectively play through injuries) if they wanted to survive.

Clark is targeted and allowed to be abused. Of course she is going to get hurt.

Reese is having a good season, then again so is Clark. For me the difference is not one other single player gets abused game to game like CC22, no other player is game planned for like CC22 is, and no other single player is held back by her own coach like CC22 is. CC22 is a better player, and better pro, than Reese.

There is no GM in the W who would choose Angel over Clark to start a team with.

I’m going to see Buekers play tonight and I guarantee she is NOT guarded the way Clark gets guarded. Clark rarely gets a rhythm catch jump shot. The one she did get she made. She’s guarded full court and consistently doubled. Nobody has to deal with that. Sue Bird didn’t. Taurasi didn’t. Not like this.

That should be true. However, I’m not going to assume it is. Over the past 14 months I have learned that the W is populated with some catastrophically stupid people.

Just a lil sophomore slump season, and to be fair, it's tough to find your rhythm and get out of it when you keep getting hurt. Stats wise, this season will be an anomaly on Clark's career stat sheet, specifically that shooting percentage. But I will say, she's gotta work on the turnovers still. Averaging 4-5 a game is pretty damn bad.

Angel would be thrown out of the league for fighting and creating a disturbance if she had to endure the punishment Caitlin has last year and this year.

Angel is a really good player when she doesn't force herself into making bad decisions. Only haters say that she sucks. Statistical comparisons are easy, but anyone that knows basketball will understand that a point guard will have much more volatile scoring stats. Also, anyone who knows basketball can watch five minutes of both players and see who the more valuable player is based on how they dictate what happens on the floor. Even a pedestrian game by CC's standards (12/7/5) can be extremely impressive to watch.

She was hurt on a non contact play last night. Also, Angel is injured and out tonight, prob because she's targeted and allowed to be abused.

Thanks for the quick answer, AI..... Angel Reese's shooting percentage in the paint is quite low, particularly within the restricted area (shots close to the basket). In the 2025 season, nearly 92% of her shots have come from within 10 feet, but she's only shooting 28.0% from within three feet and 36.8% from three-to-10 feet, according to Yahoo Sports
