Would a hire of Franklin

Get players excited enough to keep a big chunk of them around? He is a name and has been better than us at a big name school. If not him, who would be able to somewhat keep this roster together, that we could actually get? Also question, does he call plays? I don't think so but not sure.

Offensively, probably not. Defensively it would depend on the DC hire. His offenses at Penn State leave a TON to be desired

You probably get decent roster retention by hiring one of the following: 1. Kiffin 2. Key 3. Durkin 4. Franklin

Not just his offense, Play a team with a pulse and he losses. His record against Ranked Teams, and B1G Teams is AWFUL.

I don't think a Sumrall hire would move the needle for the current roster. I think you'd see a significant roster reset with that hire unless he retained the defensive staff.

Man, I wish we could get Kiffin. Feels like I've been screaming that for 10 years. If I was rich, we would.

I agree with you.

He won 2 playoff games just last year and had 10+ win seasons 3 straight year in a row before this year. While playing in the second best conference. He is the best possible coach we could hire even if he stays with his offense. Maybe him getting fired is the ego check he needs to stay out of the offense and hire a young stud. If he does that he becomes a truly elite coach.

I think to a degree it would. He's a well known name. He's been in the CFP the past two years. I don't know how in depth the players themselves actually dig into a coach's resume. But a lot of guys on the team would at least likely be very familiar with who he is. So, to me that would help. I just don't know if it'd make a massive difference, or a moderate difference.

This is kinda how I was thinking when I made this thread. He's won pretty big recently at a big time school, & he has a name

While he isn't my first or second choice, I can admit that I can see how hiring him could bring some stability to the program. I'm not in love with it. But I don't hate it either.

He's not at the top of mine either. Don't think I'd be mad though, I like it better than some of these other names that are being thrown around out here.

I still think we can get him. We just have to be willing to back of the brink truck. I think when the job comes open, Kiffin will be interested again.

regardless, the good news is whoever the new coach is gets time to get the booster buy in and start negotiating with the players he really wants to keep. At least thats how I understood the new portal rules

Imagine replacing a coach who was ranked preseason 30ish and lost to 3 straight top 10 teams for a coach that was top 3 preseason who lost 3 straight to unranked teams.

Even durk is kind of unique to our situation. If he wasn’t already on staff and recruited these guys, I’m not sure how much he moves the needle. I feel like you can drop Kiffin in at any program, and it’s going to build some excitement.

He’s definitely the quickest path to success. I’m sure they’ll make him say no, just hope we go into it with the mentality that we’re gonna make him say yes

Kiffin is your only chance to keep the WR room I think

Retaining Marcus Davis keeps our WR room in tact, IMO.

What's the excitement with Franklin? He basically had unlimited resources at a football school and had an awful record against good competition. Pass!!

Auburn has a lot of money that’s key #1. Franklin has a history of building a top 10-15 team, that’s key #2. Franklin has a massive list of players he’s gotten drafted and are excelling in the NFL, that’s key #3. The last piece of the puzzle is who the assistants are and we don’t have anyway to predict that.
