It took 4 to install the Banks defense.

Hope it works out. What happened at Ohio State during their natty run is not a good look. And then he gets dunked on by an interim UCLA coach.

For the 2024-2025 season, Knowles' defense ranked 1st in yards allowed, 1st in scoring defense, and 1st in red zone defense in college football. Knowles helped Ohio State win the National Championship that same season, the first in the new 12-team College Football Playoff format.

You all clearly didn't keep up with what was happening at Ohio State during that time. Go do your research. Go look at what happened after the regular season Oregon game, look up the name Larry Johnson and then come back to discuss.

He got sidelined during the playoffs, so he wasn’t calling the D “during the run”. They were great in the regular season while he was calling plays, but they also had the best roster in CFB.

The amount of times I heard on this board "You gotta get rid of Banks, it's the only way we're making it to the top. If you care about championships, you need to hire like it". Well, that info is pretty relevant when it comes to this situation yeah? I'm not saying Knowles is a bad hire. I'm not saying he's not capable of crafting an elite defense. What I am saying is giving him sole credit for that 2024 Ohio State defense is laughable and there's stink around it that wasn't coming from anyone other than Ohio State internally and their sources during that run. That's it.

That was also the first game under the interim coach, so there wasn’t a lot of stuff to go off of. It was also the week after their loss to Oregon and I’m sure the players all assumed they’d thrash UCLA. And, if I remember correctly, they turned it over a couple of times setting UCLA up well. But, if you want to talk about 1 game performances and act like they’re not outliers, Banks held Florida to 11 points. One game does not a defense make. Will Knowles succeed here? Who knows? But can we, for the love of God, let him coach some games before we say it’s a failure?
