Dude calm down. It wasn’t a good crowd. And this is coming from someone else who is also a long time season ticket holder. Folks aren’t so much criticizing those at the game, it’s acknowledging the continued inability for Carolina fans to consistently show up and support the team on game day. I’m glad you show up and have been for a long time. We need others like you and me to better prioritize being in Kenan.

Multiple seats around our section were sold to Richmond fans. They need to start punishing fans who have season tickets and sell their tickets to the other team’s fan base. At reputable programs you would be at risk of losing your seats. If you want to sell your tickets either put them up on the ticket exchange or find fans on Twitter. I and the people around me should not be hearing the other teams fanbase yelling loudly at a home game. The only place fans from the other teams should be located is in their designated section. It’s embarrassing sitting in a section that I know are season ticket holders and seeing fans of the other team

I think the issue is most of the time the folks talking about the crowd are the same ones who won’t go to the games.

I thought the attendance was okay. Getting embarrassed by TCU then not wow-ing in Charlotte coupled with a nice weekend and a bland opponent was a recipe for a half full stadium. It was quiet for sure but there shouldn’t have been a real expectation for a crazy atmosphere and packed house after the last couple of weeks

Maybe when we join the SEC we will generate more new fans who will displace the season holders who really just come when it’s a “big” game and are there for social purposes only. Well a brother can dream

I’ll say again. It’s a Social event for a lot, and what people don’t see on tv is around 5k or more just in the concourses with no intention on going to their seats. That’s what makes attendance look bad because the concourse doesn’t show on TV.

That and South side always has more than north side.

We will never get maximum attendance against FCS teams. Few programs really do.

It will take a decade or two of increased male enrollment numbers to really move the needle.

Yes it’s unfortunate TV shows the “bad” side. The South side looked really full to me for an FCS. The North side sucks to sit on until November IMO. Even 80° days seem terrible for whatever reason and it was still full sun by the end of the game.

That was a much better crowd than we normally get for FCS games, be real.

I don’t get it. It really wasn’t hot. You couldn’t have asked for better weather, a better start time. I went with a couple of dad’s and our 6 year olds. Everybody had a great time. They didn’t care that we were playing an FCS team - they saw us beating the crap out of the spiders, had fun trying to spot Ramses and watching the band, cheerleaders, walking around campus. The only real downside is that it’s hard to come away from there spending less than $150 between tickets, concessions and parking. But all in all, great memories made and 3 kids that came away saying I can’t wait to go to more Tar Heel football games. I challenge us die hards to drag some friends out to games, especially if you’re one of the 2.5 million people that live within 45 minutes of the stadium.

Can you name at least of couple of 'reputable programs' where fans are somehow at risk of losing their season tickets by selling their seats to fans of the opposing teams ? How do they enforce something like this ?

We did show up for the first game and the team shit the bed in the most embarrassing way possible. We've played two football subdivision teams since with an offense that is boring. So don't be surprised if fans dont show up.

Students showed up for the most part. Everyone else did not. Fans have to be better if we want a better program. That is the one thing we can control and we have to be better. F your excuses and complaints. If we want to elevate the way our program is perceived, we have to do our job.

I appreciate all of this. For anyone on here complaining about attendance who didn’t go to the game, this would have been a perfect opportunity. For those who are season ticket holders and can’t go to games, don’t let the tickets go unused. Re-sell them (admittedly hard to do with an FCS game), turn them in to the Rams Club (you’ll get a donation credit, and they’ll re-sell or even give them away), or give them to family or friends who can use them (which is what I did this week because I couldn’t travel to the Hill for this game). To those concerned about reselling because it lets opposing fans into the house… yeah, that’s not ideal, but I’d rather have the cameras seeing every seat filled (and those people spending money on concessions) than seeing large chunks of empty seats. Finally, I see in the box score that the announced attendance was 50,500, which is capacity. It’s great that we sold every ticket, but how many actually show up matters, too, both optically and financially. Recently the LA Times did a story where they FOIAed the “scan count“ of UCLA games and compared it to the announced attendance. Scan count was considerably less. I wonder what ours will look like by season end.

I did not attend the game because I was working my way back from the Packers game, but I can tell you that in Green Bay the rule is that they won’t strip fans of season tickets unless the holder attends no games over the course of two seasons. They have the data on it from cell phones scanning ticket entries.

I didn’t go this weekend because I took my oldest to his golf tournament in San Antonio. I love the time with my kids but 150 is a steal!

It might not be as much of a common practice in CFB but multiple NFL teams have this practice. The team monitors which season ticket holders are selling tickets and will either suspend your license or price you out of the seat. My friend who has season tickets at Alabama said a group on his row got warned their license would be revoked because they sold every game except Georgia and Auburn last year It’s a big practice in soccer especially in Europe that the team will ban you from season tickets if you continuously get caught selling them. I’ve got no problem if people can’t make a game here and there but they should be attempting to make every single one. If not, then it should be sold through the ticket exchange

I’m sure Andrew Carter will have a similar piece on Carolina in a few weeks and will only use the Richmond game as his data set. You know because he would never try and skew data to make UNC look bad.
