Heading into the fourth inning on Monday night, LSU players were sent back to the dugout. Up 5-3 on UCLA, the game was put into a weather delay. The Tigers did not take the field again as the delay will go on throughout the night.

The game will be picked back up on Tuesday. Not what anyone at the College World Series wanted, with two games plus at least six more innings of LSU-UCLA left to be played. Whoever winds up on the losing end is also scheduled to get back out there later in the day.

“Due to either, Game 8 has been suspended to tomorrow, Tuesday, June 17 at 10 a.m. CT,” a statement from the official NCAA Baseball account said via X. “Gates will open at 9 a.m. CT. Box Office will open at 8 a.m. CT.

“Game 9 between Oregon State and Louisville will take place at 1 p.m. CT. Gates will open tentatively 1 hour following the conclusion of Game 8.

“Game 10 will take place at 6 p.m. CT. Gates will open tentatively 1 hour following the conclusion of Game 9.”

Thankfully for the other teams scheduled to play on Tuesday, those games are not going to be affected. This assumes LSU and UCLA are able to finish six innings in three hours. If not, or extra innings are required, other times might be pushed back.

More on game between LSU, UCLA in midst of lengthy delay

Turns out, the only thing that can cool off the LSU and UCLA bats is the rain. Both teams were able to put together some hits and turn them into runs early on. The two crossed the plate a combined eight times through three innings on nine hits. Jared Jones had the biggest swing of them all, crushing a three-run home run in the first inning.

Looking at pitching, LSU’s Jay Johnson was still rocking with starter Anthony Eyanson. He threw 44 pitches, giving up four hits, three earned runs, and striking out one while walking none. Johnson should have his entire bullpen available to him when the game resumes.

UCLA cannot say the same. Landon Stump was run out after just two innings and is responsible for four of the runs given up. Chris Grothues was then brought into the game and pitched in the bottom half of the third inning. Although he could be available moving forward, as only 18 pitches were thrown.
