A meteorologist has provided a weather update regarding the delayed College World Series game between LSU and UCLA. According to Brigit Mahoney from Hurrdat Sports, the game could be resumed by 9:30 p.m. CT.

The game was suspended ahead of the fourth inning with LSU leading the Bruins 5-3. Seven of the first eight runs scored in the matchup came during the first inning, with UCLA jumping out to a three-run lead in the top of the first and the Tigers answering with four of their own later that inning.

“Scattered rain is still working in from the north,” she said. “I expect rain showers, light to moderate to continue through about 9:30 to 10 o’clock this evening. We work in some dry time, so I think they could squeeze the game in from 9:30 onwards.

“After midnight tonight, we watch for a secondary round of storms overnight, and then Tuesday, we have the potential of even more storms by Tuesday afternoon. So, a turbulent next several hours, but I do think by 10 o’clock, we work in some dry time for at least a brief period of time.”

It’s likely that both teams will have to move on from their pitchers that were on the mound during the third inning. For LSU, that’s Anthony Eyanson. And for UCLA, the Bruins already reached into the bullpen early during Monday’s matchup. Starting pitcher Landon Stump threw 56 pitches across 2.0 innings, allowing four earned runs on four hits along including giving up a home run and two walks.

As of this report, it’s unclear who each team will place on the mound to start the fourth inning. With most teams looking to save as many arms from their bullpen as possible down the stretch in Omaha, having to change pitchers due to weather-related circumstances is something frustrating, as well as out of anyone’s control.

At the end of the third inning, the initial weather delay was announced: “Due to severe weather in the area, we are in a weather delay,” the official NCAA Baseball X account wrote. “Please leave your seat and proceed to the concourse area in an orderly fashion as directed by event staff. You may remain in the concourse until notified that the game will resume and that you may return to your seat.”

The winner of Monday night’s matchup will take on Arkansas on Tuesday. That game is set for 6 p.m. ET.
