LSU players came out onto the field to start the fourth inning and were quickly ushered off. Instead, the tarp came out as the College World Series goes into a rain delay. This comes as the Tigers are leading 5-3 over the UCLA Bruins.

“Due to severe weather in the area, we are in a weather delay,” the official NCAA Baseball X account said. “Please leave your seat and proceed to the concourse area in an orderly fashion as directed by event staff. You may remain in the concourse until notified that the game will resume and that you may return to your seat.”

Depending on how long the delay is, both head coaches might have to put new pitchers into the game. Yes, it’s frustrating for LSU and UCLA but at the same time, neither guy has really been dominant. Through three innings, eight total runs have been scored on nine hits. Neither team is striking out a ton either.

Whoever winds up winning will be in a pretty position to earn a spot in the CWS championship series. Loser gets back on the field Wednesday for an elimination game with the Arkansas Razorbacks.

Thankfully, rain delays at the College World Series are nothing new. The grounds crew at Charles Schwab Field is more than used to pulling on the tarp — as annoyed as that can be for the fans. Weather in the is expected to pass at some point on Monday night. Hopefully, this game will be played instead of having to come back on Tuesday.

LSU loses left-handed pitcher to NCAA transfer portal

LSU RHP Kade Woods has entered his name into the NCAA Transfer Portal. That news comes per reporting Sunday evening by On3’s Pete Nakos.

Woods has spent four seasons pitching in the Southeastern Conference with a pair apiece at LSU and Alabama. He has made 22 collegiate appearances with 32.1 innings pitched, posting a record of 4-1, with the Tigers and Crimson Tide over the past three years. He has an ERA of 6.47 with 42 strikeouts.

After redshirting in his first year in Tuscaloosa, Woods put up most of that as a redshirt freshman at ‘Bama. He, in 17 appearances with 29.1 innings pitched, had an ERA of 5.52 with 38 strikeouts. Woods is a native of Monroe, Louisiana. He attended Ouachita Christian High School.
