4-star EDGE Monteque Rhames announces commitment date
Sumter (S.C.) four-star EDGE Monteque Rhames announced Saturday that he is committing on July 30. Rhames, a 6-foot-5, 230 pound prospect, is ranked as the No. 332 overall prospect and No. 39 EDGE in the 2023 On3 Consensus. He is also the No. 4 player in South Carolina.
Rhames announced a top eight of Coastal Carolina, Florida State, Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina State, South Carolina, Virginia Tech and UCF in June. Of his 17 unofficial visits, eight of them have been to the Gamecocks. He last visited South Carolina on June 4, his only visit of the month. A day before, Rhames received an offer from Alabama.
According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, the Gamecocks have a commanding lead to land Rhames’ pledge at 93.1%. The team with the next-best odds is North Carolina State at 3.7%.
“They practice like us, they’ve got the same name as us with the Gamecock thing. It’s a lot of similarities to what we do now, all that,” Rhames told Gamecock Central in March about South Carolina. “There are a little different plays and stuff like that, but I like the things they do. I talk to almost the whole staff when I go there.”
Rhames also had high praise for Gamecocks defensive ends/outside linebackers coach Sterling Lucas and head coach Shane Beamer. In the spring, he took three unofficial visits to Columbia in just under a month. Two were on back-to-back weeks in late March, according to the On3 Visit Center.
Rhames has an On3 NIL Valuation of $13.4K. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
