4-star LSU quarterback commit Walker Howard visiting Notre Dame

Lafayette (La.) St. Thomas More quarterback Walker Howard will take an unofficial visit to Notre Dame this weekend, sources tell On3 Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons.
Howard, the No. 66 overall player and No. 7 quarterback in the 2022 On300, has been committed to the Tigers since June. He chose LSU over offers from Alabama, Arkansas, Baylor, Texas A&M and others. He’s given no indications that he was wavering on his commitment to Ed Orgeron and the Tigers, but this will be his first trip to see another program play outside of the state of Louisiana.
Howard’s father, Jamie, played quarterback for the Tigers from 1992-95.
Walker Howard part of huge LSU recruiting class
The 6-foot-1, 195-pound Howard is one of the cherries on top of LSU’s 2022 recruiting class, which currently sits inside the top 10. The Tigers have nine commitments ranked in the 2022 On300. Joining Howard in the rankings are four-star tight end Jake Johnson, four-star running back Trevonte’ Citizen, interior offensive lineman Will Campbell (No. 74 overall) and nearly have a dozen others.

LSU has dominated recruiting in its own state, and 2022 is no exception. The Tigers have eight of the state’s top 17 prospects already committed, and they’re considered major contenders or the favorite to land six of the remaining nine who are still on the board. That includes On300 athlete Kendrick Law (No. 36), safety Jacoby Mathews (No. 42), defensive lineman Quency Wiggins (No. 55) and running back Le’Veon Moss (No. 81).
After losing its season opener to UCLA, LSU has responded with three straight wins. But the Tigers host No. 22 Auburn this weekend, a game that Howard was expected to be in attendance for. Instead, he’ll head to South Bend, where the ninth-ranked Fighting Irish host No. 7 Cincinnati.
