Toms River (N.J.) North four-star offensive tackle Jaelyne Matthews decommitted from Penn State on Sept. 12. He’s now moving closer to making his second pledge.

On Sunday, the trench monster announced that he is down to six schools: Georgia, Maryland, Miami, Rutgers, Syracuse and Tennessee.

Official visits are also already in the works for Matthews. He has locked in OV dates with the Orange (May 31), the Volunteers (June 14) and the Bulldogs (June 21), while Miami is also expected to receive one in June.

He is the No. 150 overall prospect and No. 12 OT in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 4 player in New Jersey.

On3 ranks Matthews higher than other recruiting services. He checks in at No. 75 overall and No. 10 at offensive tackle in the 2025 On300.

Before Matthews makes his official visit to Miami, he’s set to return to Coral Gables for an unofficial visit later this month on March 23. In January, head coach Mario Cristobal and Canes OL coach Alex Mirabal made their way to New Jersey to visit the 6-foot-5.5, 273-pounder.

“I’d say they definitely became a program on my radar when the head coach came and visited me at my school and showed how much he actually cared,” Matthews told CaneSport in February. “It had a pretty big effect on me. It was a personable visit.”

It’s Georgia that’s currently trending for Matthews, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM). The Dawgs picked up momentum as he decommitted from Penn State and visited Athens soon after last September.

Part of Matthews’ interest in UGA stemmed from former defensive backs coach and New Jersey native Fran Brown — the new head coach at Syracuse. Brown is now looking to rebuild the ACC program and has already made some strides on the recruiting trail, and he’ll now look to add Matthews to the mix.

Just before the February dead period, Matthews made his way to Rocky Top for his first visit to Tennessee. He came away impressed by the Volunteers and OL coach Glen Elarbee.

“He reminds me a lot of my O-line coach at high school,” Matthews told Volquest. “He is a very personable guy. He treats his o-line like they are his son. I look up him to most definitely, and I would like to play for him one day. They are definitely up there in the rankings for me after this visit.”
