There’s no doubt that ESPN‘s NFL Insider Adam Schefter is the best in the business. Whether it’s announcing a trade, a coaching hiring/firing or a free agent signing, Schefter is always the first to break the news on social media.

Schefter however made a hilarious mistake on Twitter/X Wednesday night when he attached an angry Memoji of his face to a tweet announcing that the Tennessee Titans had named rookie quarterback Cam Ward a captain heading into the 2025 season.

“Before it’s deleted, Does this go down as the best deleted Schefter tweet ever?” X user @jacksettleman wrote. Another user (@laquartius) also hilariously wrote “Safe to say Adam Schefter is NOT happy about this one!”

Schefter’s tweet was crafted to announce that the Titans had announced Ward, who they selected with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, as a team captain for the 2025 season. He’s made a strong impression since arriving in Tennessee after coming off a standout season at Miami, where he became a Heisman Trophy finalist as part of his journey from unranked recruit to top pick.

Cam Ward will open season as Titans starting quarterback

Ward came in as the projected starter on the Titans’ first unofficial depth chart released earlier this offseason after the franchise announced Will Levis would miss the 2025 season due to shoulder surgery. That opened the door for Ward to take over as the QB1, which he did with flying colors.

The former Hurricane played in all three of Tennessee’s preseason games, but sparingly. He completed 10/19 passing for 145 yards and no touchdowns.

Cam Ward began his college career at Incarnate Word before spending two seasons at Washington State, where he put up impressive numbers. He initially declared for the 2024 NFL Draft, but ultimately chose to return to college and transfer to Miami in 2025.

That decision paid off in a big way. Ward threw for 4,313 yards and led the nation with 39 passing touchdowns at Miami while also showing off his ability to extend the play and make throws on the run.

That skillset helped make him the No. 1 overall pick this year, and he’ll make his NFL regular season debut on Sept. 7 against the Denver Broncos. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:05 on FOX.
