Addison Ostrenga injury update: Iowa TE carted to locker room with hurt left leg

Iowa tight end Addison Ostrenga went down with an injury in the first quarter against Iowa State Saturday. FOX sideline reporter Jenny Taft had more on the broadcast.
“Gus, an injury I’m keeping an eye on for Iowa, tight end Addison Ostrenga has been taken to the locker room for further evaluation. It’s a lower body injury. He was taken on the cart, unable to walk on his left leg. And as we know for Iowa, they are deep at the tight end position but still a loss for the Hawkeyes right now.”
Getting carted off is never a good sign. Ostrenga did not register a catch for the Hawkeyes in the first quarter. After the first frame, Iowa State led 6-0 courtesy of two field goals.
Ostrenga registered one catch for eight yards last week. In total, now in his fourth season with Iowa, Ostrenga has 48 catches for 320 yards and three touchdowns.

Not having Ostrenga definitely hurts Iowa moving forward. It remains to be seen if he’ll return Saturday, but being cart off would certainly diminish his chances.
Kirk Ferentz is actually chasing history if Iowa wins today. Not only would it be a victory over a rival, Ferentz could become the Big Ten’s all-time winningest head coach.
“I go back, like, ‘how the hell did this happen?’” Ferentz told On3 this summer. He spoke with On3’s Brett McMurphy.
With win No. 206 Saturday or next week, Ferentz will make history for himself and Iowa. The Hawkeyes certainly hope they can do it against the Cyclones, nailing two birds with one stone.
