Amaree Abram has been one of the hottest names of the prep season. The 6-foot-3 guard transferred to Los Angeles (Calif.) So Cal Academy this off-season, and things took off for him.

“I bring a toughness to the floor,” Abram told On3. “I am a leader and bring a defensive aspect to the team, playing well on both ends of the floor. I’ve improved my leadership a lot since the summer, being tougher. I would say I am more of a point guard now and comfortable leading my guys. I’ve heard I play like Kevin Porter, Jr., Deangelo Russell. I watch a lot of NBA guys and will take whatever I notice from them to help me get better.”

Abram was previously committed to Texas A&M; he decided to re-open his recruitment in November.

“Texas A&M is a great program. I like their coaches too,” Abram said. “I ended up not signing there because I didn’t feel like I fit their system.”

Since de-committing, quite a few high major programs have become involved in his recruitment. Amaree Abram breaks down his thoughts on each program exclusively with On3.

Abram’s Recruitment

“I am hearing a lot from Ole Miss, Xavier, Louisville, St. John’s. I have taken an official visit to Ole Miss and Texas A&M, and I am planning official visits with Louisville and Xavier. That will give me one left.”

Ole Miss: “I love the coaching staff over there. I made sure to sit front row when I was there to see how the coaches and players responded. It was a good group of guys, and I really liked the coaching staff.”

Louisville: “During the Zoom call we got on, they broke down their offense and what they look for from their guards. I feel like I fit the style they play and want to go out and see for myself.”

Xavier: “I love their coaching staff; I feel like they are really interested in me as a player and a person. I watched a few of their games, they have a tough frontcourt, and with a player like me who can get guys open, I feel like I am a natural fit for them.”

“Wake Forest, Tennessee, Cincinnati, and Missouri are some schools I am hearing from that could make me think if they offered.”

Abram’s take

“I want to play in a system where I can play fast, get downhill. I want to play for a coach where I am allowed to mess up and still be able to play through my mistakes.”

On3’s take

Amaree Abram is a cat-quick guard who mixes a crafty handle with quick-twitch athleticism. He is an aggressive paint-tough guard and has outstanding balance to finish in traffic. When he is locked in, Abram can be a good point-of-attack defender. The jump shot is streaky, but he is most confident pulling up off the bounce. Perhaps more of a combo than a true point, Abram is comfortable with the ball in his hands, in the half-court. He has a toughness to his mindset as well.
