Arkansas is gearing up to take on No. 2 Alabama this week, meaning the Razorbacks have to prepare for Bryce Young. When asked about Young’s game, Arkansas coach Sam Pittman had one word to describe him: “Outstanding.”

In fact, he used the word three times in his answer on the SEC teleconference this week. He went on to discuss what makes him so effective as a quarterback.

“He can make all the throws, he so smooth [and] runs the offense outstanding,” Pittman said. “Very, very dangerous with his feet, but for him to do what he’s done, to me, is just incredible. We’re very, very concerned about him and a lot of the guys they have on offense, but he has led that team and has done an outstanding job.

“He’s what an Alabama quarterback, to me, is. A winner, a guy that runs the team and is very talented.”

Young is 13th in the nation in passing yards with 302.5 and sits at No. 3 nationally with 33 touchdowns. To say he’s a big part of Alabama’s 9-1 record would be an understatement, and he has the offense running like a well-oiled machine.

Alabama has the No. 11 passing offense in the country with 322.5 yards per game and the third-best scoring offense in the nation, averaging 44.6 points per game. But the Crimson Tide will have a tougher task ahead against Arkansas, which ranks No. 3 in the SEC in passing defense.

The Razorbacks have held opponents to just 195.7 yards per game. But the only SEC quarterback with more passing yards than Young, Will Rogers, threw for 417 yards against Arkansas two weeks ago. That could be the barometer for how Young plays this week.

Bryce Young’s teammates are talking about how good he is

Even Alabama players can’t help but talk about how well Young is playing this year. Running back Brian Robinson III met the media after Saturday’s win over New Mexico State and talked about what the sophomore has done under center this year — with Young right by his side.

“Bryce had to really step into some big shoes, and he’s been doing a great job of that,” Robinson told reporters. “It’s not easy to step up as a starting quarterback – and for as a early as it is in his career – he’s been doing a great job. Just being where his feet are and trusting everything that comes with this program. And stepping up, being a voice, and going out on the field playing like a leader so other people can reflect off that.”

Alabama and Arkansas face off Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET on CBS.
