It’s not every day you see a player transfer to a rival program, but former Florida running back Trevor Etienne did just that when he joined the Georgia Bulldogs this offseason. One of the most versatile offensive players in the SEC who will now play behind one of the best offensive lines in the country.

Jake Rowe of Dawgs HQ recently joined the On3 Roundtable and was asked if he believes Eitenne has the potential to be the best running back in the SEC this upcoming season in year one with the Bulldogs.

“As far as best running back in the SEC, you know that’s always hard. They’re always good backs, everybody’s got talented players,” Rowe admitted. “Alabama‘s got a couple of guys that they signed in the 2023 class that I’m sure are going to have something to say about that. But I think Trevor Etienne will be up there, I think he will definitely be one of those guys. He’s fit right in at Georgia.”

Etienne found his name on the preseason watch list for the Maxwell Award, the Paul Hornung Award, and the Doak Walker Award this offseason. Doing it all as the backup running back for the Gators behind Montrell Johnson for two seasons where he racked up 1,472 yards and 14 touchdowns on the ground, caught 30 passes for 238 yards and one touchdown through the air, and returned 28 kicks for 671 yards in the return game.

“He had some off the field issues to begin with, had a little run in with with local law enforcement there, and I think that’s kind of gotten ironed out,” Rowe added. “But otherwise man, just in terms of how he has fit into the Georgia program, Kirby Smart said it multiple times. He’s jumped in, he’s become a leader, he’s kind of built some quick bonds there with teammates, and I think that’s a good fit there for him. And I’m interested to see him run behind this Georgia offensive line, it should be one of the better ones in the country.”

After being charged with multiple misdemeanors in March, including a DUI, Etienne could be facing a one-game suspension from the Georgia program this season despite his charges being dropped in July. But when he does take the field for the Bulldogs, there’s no chance he has the potential to be a breakout player for the top-ranked team in the nation entering the season.
