Texas A&M and Auburn open their respective conference slates with an SEC West matchup against one another next weekend.

For those interested in sprinkling some cash on this one, it may be helpful to know that the Aggies have opened up as better than touchdown favorites at Kyle Field vs. the Tigers. FanDuel has set the early line at Texas A&M -7.5 as of Sunday morning, with the over/under at 50.5 points.

This contest comes on the heels of a Week 3 where both squads took care of business with blowouts against lower-conference opponents. Auburn handled Samford by a 45-13 score while A&M put away Louisiana-Monroe with a 47-3 victory.

Those results may not tell us much about the two teams. However, their outings in the week prior provided a much better snapshot of what they’ll look like against SEC competition. In Week 2, A&M traveled east to face Miami for a return game in Coral Gables after the Hurricanes ventured to College Station last fall and lost in a 17-9 defensive nail-biter.

The ‘Canes served up some ice cold revenge in their trip to the Lone Star state as the contest was much higher-scoring this time around. Both quarterbacks surpassed 300 yards on the day, but it was Miami’s Tyler Van Dyke who won that matchup, tossing for 374 yards and five touchdowns as he propelled his team to 48 points on the road against a vaunted A&M defense.

Meanwhile, Auburn spent their second week of play on the opposite side of the country facing California on the road. The Golden Bears pushed the Tigers to the limit and held the lead for much of the evening before QB Payton Thorne tossed a game-winning TD with just over five minutes to play, setting up the eventual 14-10 win.

That win looked dubious this past weekend when Cal let Idaho score three straight times to go up 17-0 midway through the second quarter on that same field. However, they rallied to save face for themselves and Auburn and ran off 31 straight points to win by two touchdowns.

With neither club making the SEC very proud in those marquee non-conference matchups (as has been a theme early this season), there’s really no telling how this initial dive into league play will go. The folks at FanDuel seem to prefer the Aggies’ talent, especially at home, and have them favored by slightly more than one score next weekend.
