BBNFL Week 13: Chris Rodriguez Jr. seizes starting job, scores in third straight home game
Chris Rodriguez Jr. is arguably the best running back of the Mark Stoops era, and that’s saying something. He, Benny Snell, and Ray Davis (among others), put up jaw-dropping numbers for Stoops’ run-it-down-their-throat style of football, and all three of those guys played or are still playing on Sundays.
C-Rod has lived on the fringe of the Washington Commanders’ roster since being drafted, but he has officially seized the team’s starting running back role in Week 13. Not only did he start, but Rodriguez also dominated rushing attempts between the three-headed committee in the Commanders’ backfield. He had 11 carries compared to Jeremy McNichols’ six and Jacory Croskey-Merritt’s four.
Rodriguez also handled goalline duties for the Commanders and for the third time in four weeks, including three straight home games, C-Rod found the endzone. Thoughts and prayers to the poor defensive back who was trucked at the one-yard line on the eight-yard score.
Rodriguez finished with 41 yards on those 11 totes in a thrilling Sunday Night Football game, albeit in a 26-27 overtime loss to the Broncos. Washington went for a two-point attempt in overtime, but foolishly, they opted to go for it to Rodriguez, and they failed to convert for the win.
In the aftermath of the game, the former Kentucky Wildcat took some time on Monday to let BBN know how he felt about Mark Stoops as he departs as Kentucky’s head coach. He told former KSR Intern Maggie Davis:

“I am eternally grateful for the opportunity [Mark] Stoops provided me as a three-star recruit coming out of high school. Althought I had limited foresight about my future, [Stoops] played a pivotal role in transforming my slim chances into reality. [I thank him] for [his] unwavering belief in me and [his] assistance in making my dreams a reality, both on and off the field. [Stoops] will forever be a legend in my eyes.”

Ray Davis posts a season high in rushing yards
Chris Rodriguez is a good example of the many recruit-and-develop success stories under Mark Stoops. And while Stoops may have missed on some players in the portal in recent years, he did not miss on Ray Davis.
Sweet Baby Ray has had some ups and downs this season, with no better up than his 97-yard kickoff return in Week 12. Aside from this special teams big play, Davis hasn’t seen much work within the offense since the Bills turned James Cook into an every-down back.
Through the first 12 weeks of the season, Ray Davis had 22 rushing attempts for a total of 44 yards, but the former Wildcat rushed for 62 yards in Week 13 alone. Buffalo came out against Pittsburgh with a clear run-first mentality, rushing 46 times compared to just 28 pass attempts. Davis took nine of those carries, also a season high.
The Bills put a beatdown on the Steelers, winning 26-7 on Sunday, meaning they might have something with this ground-heavy attack. If so, don’t expect to wait another 13 weeks for Ray Davis to have another 60-plus yard game.
Other BBNFL Notes
- Josh Hines-Allen added to his franchise-leading sack total, tacking on a season-high two on Sunday in the Jaguars’ dominating win over the Titans. Hines-Allen also recorded seven QB pressures, giving him 67 on the season, which ties Micah Parsons for third best in the NFL.
- Mike Edwards has bounced around the NFL the last few seasons but landed on the Kansas City practice squad in 2025. He made his season debut for the Chiefs on Thanksgiving Day and recorded four total tackles while you were taking your post-turkey nap. KC fell to the Cowboys 28-31.
- Wan’Dale Robinson led the Giants with seven receptions on Monday Night Football, but yet again, they were of the dink and dunk variety as he only totaled 34 yards in prime time. The G-men got whalloped by the surprisingly good Patriots, 33-15.
