Texas Tech quarterback Behren Morton will start Saturday at Houston, sources tell On3. The fifth-year player exited the Utah game earlier this month from a hard hit to the neck area.

Morton had the Red Raiders’ bye week to recover and was back in practice on Sunday and Monday. A source told On3 that the quarterback is “ready to go.” Coming off the bench against Utah, backup quarterback Will Hammond was 13 of 16 for 169 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 61 yards on eight carries in the 34-10 win.

Morton left the 2025 season opener against Arkansas-Pine Bluff following a sack with a hyperextension of the knee but did not miss time. Morton has dealt with injuries throughout his career, including his right ankle and collarbone. He underwent surgery last December for a grade-3 sprain to his AC joint.

“He looked great yesterday,” Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire said on Monday. “I got a video Friday morning, he was running around throwing with Mike Ramirez, our trainer, and they videoed, of course, him sliding. So it was good to see that.”

In four games this season, Behren Morton has thrown for 1,065 yards with 11 touchdowns and just three interceptions. He has a 69% completion percentage. Morton is 19–9 as a starting quarterback.

Texas Tech is up to No. 11 in the AP Top 25 poll and is set to visit Houston on Saturday night. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET on ESPN.

“He was making good decisions, playing with a lot of confidence,” Texas Tech offensive coordinator Mack Leftwich said on Monday. “He was back out there last night throwing the ball around and looked good. Looked confident. So excited to get him back out there.”
