Texas Tech quarterback Behren Morton isn’t afraid to call out an in-state opponent. During an interview with ESPN’s Greg McElroy, Morton said he’d like to invade Kyle Field and square off against Texas A&M.

“In Aggieland, for sure,” Morton said. “Kyle Field, that place gets rowdy. I’ve been to a couple of games there. But, I’d love to go on the road and beat them. That’d be awesome.”

Kyle Field is one of the best atmospheres in college football. The stadium holds just shy of 103,000 fans and is widely considered one of the best home-field advantages in the country. After all, Texas A&M fans aren’t called the 12th Man for nothing.

Clearly, Behren Morton isn’t afraid of a challenge. The Red Raiders’ QB1 had a breakout season last year, tallying 3,335 passing yards and 27 touchdowns, compared to just eight interceptions. Morton completed 63.3% of his pass attempts.

Morton’s individual accomplishments translated to team success. Texas posted an 8-5 overall record and a 6-3 mark in conference play, the Red Raiders’ best conference record since head coach Joey McGuire took over in 2022.

Now, the expectations are higher than ever for Morton. He has the opportunity this fall to become the fourth Red Raider in program history to throw for 10,000 career passing yards, joining a prestigious list that includes Graham Harrell (15,793), Kliff Kingsbury (12,429) and Patrick Mahomes (11,252).

Moreover, Texas Tech had an excellent offseason, reeling in the No. 1 class in On3’s 2025 Team Transfer Portal Rankings. The Red Raiders’ incoming transfer class is headlined by defensive linemen David Bailey and Lee Hunter.

Texas Tech added its fair share of offensive weapons in the portal as well. Morton is confident in his team heading into his senior season.

“We’re going to put up a lot of points. We’re going to win the Big 12 this year and I know the confidence we have in this building,” Morton said. “We have a chip on our shoulders this year, for sure.

“This pressure that people say we have, I see it as an opportunity for greatness. I’m really excited about this team. There’s a lot of people through the media that don’t think Texas Tech is doing it the right way. But we’re going to prove this year that Texas Tech is doing it the right way.”

Texas Tech will kick off its 2025 campaign with a showdown against Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 7:30 p.m. ET on Aug. 30. The game will air live on ESPN+.
