Florida parted ways with Billy Napier on Sunday, sources tell On3. The Gators are on the hook for 85% of the total remaining compensation of his contract, upwards of $20.4 million. Napier signed a seven-year deal with over $50 million guaranteed in November 2021.

Napier did not have any offset or mitigation on the deal, and his contract was set to run through Jan. 31, 2029. With Saturday afternoon’s win over Mississippi State, Florida is 3-4 on the season and enters a bye week before playing Georgia.

The Florida head coach will be paid roughly $10.2 million within 30 days of the termination. He will receive $2.5 million every July 15th over the next four years. He will also be owed 85 percent of the next two months’ salary — roughly $1.2 million.

His total annual compensation includes his base salary, expense account and activities agreement payments, but does not include bonuses, incentives or retirement contributions. As part of Napier’s agreement, Florida pays for two cars, including insurance and a suite at home games, plus 16 tickets. He also has access to the University of Florida Athletic Association’s aircraft.

Florida athletic director Scott Stricklin backed Napier at the mid-season point in 2024, and the Gators responded by winning four consecutive games as star quarterback DJ Lagway led them to wins over LSU and Ole Miss. Napier is making $7.4 million this season.

Billy Napier was 22-23 in his time at Florida. He went 40-12 in four seasons at Louisiana, which Florida paid $3 million to buy out Napier’s contract with the school. The Gators struggled in SEC play under Napier, touting a 12-16 record and only winning one bowl game in three seasons.
