Billy Napier contract: Details of Florida head coach's buyout

If Florida decided to part ways with Billy Napier following the 2025 season, the Gators would owe their head coach $20.4 million. Napier signed a seven-year deal with over $50 million guaranteed in November 2021.
Florida athletic director Scott Stricklin backed Napier at the mid-season point in 2024, and the Gators responded by winning four consecutive games as star quarterback DJ Lagway led them to wins over LSU and Ole Miss. Napier is making $7.4 million this season.
If Florida decides to buy out the remainder of his contract, the Gators will owe 85% of the total remaining compensation on the deal. Napier does not have any offset or mitigation on the deal. Napier’s contract runs through Jan. 31, 2029.
Here’s the full buyout breakdown:
+ Buyout drops to $13 million following 2026 season
+ Buyout drops to $6.1 million following 2027 season
+ Buyout drops to $0 following 2028 season
The Florida head coach would be paid roughly $10.2 million within 30 days of the termination. He would receive $2.5 million every July 15th over the next four years. He would also be owed 85 percent of the next two months’ salary — roughly $1.2 million.
