Prized wrestling recruit Bo Bassett committed to Virginia Tech following the re-opening of his recruitment. The No. 2 pound-for-pound wrestler in the Class of 2026 originally committed to Iowa earlier this year.

Bassett had a lengthy recruitment in which he documented his process practically week to week. He gave every school a shot by posting graphics during every update, cutting down from nearly all 80 schools down to his finalists.

Among his visits, Bassett showed up on campus at IowaMichiganOhio StateOklahoma StatePenn State and Rutgers. But now, he has his new home.

Bassett’s high school teammate, Owen McMullen, remains committed to Iowa. Meanwhile, teammate Jax Forrest is the No. 1 overall prospect in the 2026 class at this point, and he is headed to Oklahoma State.

Bassett’s younger brothers Melvin Miller and Keegan Bassett were assumed to be a package deal with Iowa. Miller, the No. 1 prospect in 2027 removed Iowa from his initial top nine finalists. Keegan Bassett is a prospect in the Class of 2028, ranked No. 33 on the 2028 Big Board per MatScouts.

As far as accomplishments, Bo Bassett won his third Ironman title last winter, that time at 144 pounds and had tech falls over six straight opponents. Bassett officially announced his commitment to Iowa following a team dual in February. He ended up winning another Pennsylvania state title as an individual as well.

“I think the recruiting process and going to these visits and having people come in was supposed to make it easier, like, make it more clear to me where I should be,” Bo Bassett said on FloWrestling Radio Live earlier this year. “And I think really, it only made it harder. Every visit I took, really just made those programs jump in value. So I think the thing that surprised me the most is how hard it actually was, how stressful it is towards the end.

“You know, I think for me, it came down to things like, where I can be the best wrestler, the best person, where I can become the best in my faith, right, where they got a rich history, where they can produce good wrestlers, where I’m going to be valued, where there’s great atmospheres, right where I can grow myself, you know, maybe with my brand. I think there’s just so many things that go into it.”
